LTO has Passed Away

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

This is LTO's daughter. I would like to inform you all that LTO has not been confirmed to be dead or alive yet so there is still a chance my mother will be able to find him here. Please send your prayers and wishes and contact me here if you see anything. There is faith.

We are all very sorry for your loss. Condolences to all his friends and family. Many of us have been friends with him for many years in Cambodia, and everyone who knew him considered him one of the most genuine and trustworthy expats here.

We can only hope he is found soon so that he can be put to rest properly.

For those who want to know more about Ken Cramer, here is a very nice article about him on Move to Cambodia:

Ken originally visited Cambodia briefly in 1993 in the wake of the UNTAC-sponsored elections. He returned in mid-1994 and has been living in Cambodia for 19 years, now with his wife and two children. He worked as a teacher in Sihanoukville in the mid-1990s, an election observer in the eastern provinces in three national elections, has done occasional work in human rights and has been the publisher at Canby Publications since 1997.

Condolences to both you and Cicero, and LTOs entire family, and hoping closure comes soon.

Despite never meeting him in person, his blogs, forum contributions and other writing shaped my understanding of Cambodia and Cambodians more than anyone else, aside from my wife. Regretfully, a lot of us will never be able to thank him. He'll be greatly missed.

Sitting here looking the river now, will hold off raising a glass to him for now in the hope he's found safe and well.

Thanks for that, General. As I said on TOF, I never knew LTO but his words on the MTC blog and his many many posts make me feel like I've known him for a long time due to his consistent, reasonable, balanced and well informed comments. His steady hand will always be missed.

RIP LTO

This is very sad news. Every week we see news of ODs, car/bus/moto crashes and (often) people taking unnecessary risks... but life can be so cruel that simply slipping in the wet can take a life so randomly and pointlessly, which makes it all the more painful for those left behind. My sympathies to LTO's family and all of you who knew him. RIP.

I read the news of LTO's passing at around 6:30 this morning, and to say I was speechless is an understatement.
Have been quite busy at work today, but this news just kept niggling at the front of my thoughts. Mainly due to the way in which he died. Damn! Something like that could happen to any one of us at any time.

I had the pleasure of meeting Ken around 12 years ago. I can remember it quite vividly. It was a Friday night at Pickled Parrot. We chatted for a while, and he asked me where I was working. I told him I was teaching at <self-edited> school. He laughed and told me that he had also worked there for a few months back in 1994. He said that back then the <self-edited> school only paid new teachers $5 an hour. I was a little embarrassed to tell him that it still did. (I wouldn't be surprised if it still does).

It wasn't until a few months ago that a slip of the 'tongue by another poster here let on that Ken and LTO were one and the same. I wasn't surprised.

RIP Ken.
Condolences to the family. I hope someone manages to keep Canby running and keep the lto blog on line.

I feel this very personally and I am not sure why. I think it's partly the circumstances. It could have happened to any of us.
