Haha I totally believe that.franzjaeger wrote:It's full of white trash walking into your line of path thinking it's still some lawless hangout, only too stupid to know that any quarrel will lead to immediate detention and a $500 upwards fine, check out the police station early hours where the meatheads are let out before average mr and ms. freshie tourist wake up for their noodle soup and coffee.
It also reminds me why for the past 7 years I enjoyed so much driving my khmer car to bangkok and still frequently using it when going around.
I end up going to places for bangkokians and year after year know the city better than I ever was able before that.

MY god; Kudos to you>>
although driving a thai ( RHD) car in Cambodia isn't bad, there is no way i would ever attempt to drive a Khmer ( LHD) car in Bangkok.
In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST

The LHD isn't a problem at all. I also used to drive extensively in London with my father's old german beemer in the 90's. Only at pay booth for highways and parkings it does get tricky.phuketrichard wrote:Barang_doa_slae wrote:Haha I totally believe that.franzjaeger wrote:It's full of white trash walking into your line of path thinking it's still some lawless hangout, only too stupid to know that any quarrel will lead to immediate detention and a $500 upwards fine, check out the police station early hours where the meatheads are let out before average mr and ms. freshie tourist wake up for their noodle soup and coffee.

However it was kind of scary in the first years, when I hadn't quite memorized the main boulevards map yet. Exit a mall by the wrong gate, landing you elswhere than studied, the circulation can be so dynamic that you can't check the map properly. In such circumstances I sometimes had to rely on my mirror compass to get a bearing. Add to that any other problem like a short on gas situation and the stress level goes way up too.
These days I can often manage to drive Parisian style and give some thais petrol heads a few lessons.

The junta have had a huge impact on it.Barang_doa_slae wrote:Isn't it full of hipsters these days ? Not that it matters really since if not, I would then presume it to be packed with smelly backpackers.
Now since many things could have happened in two decades please do tell me.
No worse than any popular area of U.K. or Oz city center at night.
To say it's a place where backpackers get into fights and spend the night in prison is a slight exaggeration. It maybe happens to 0.01% of the travelers.
Also, Bangkok is the starting hub. Backpackers aren't smelly yet
It's calmed down so much, certainly no Poppies 2.

I also have high hopes of Daffy passing me a map to an island one of these days.

There are several good reasons to go to KSR. There are products targeted to foreigners, to include cool t-shirts and cheap used books, etc.. The side streets are well-known for wholesale silver jewelry. High-quality pieces can be bought or made to specifications.
There were never whores there. None that I ever saw, a complete lack of freelancers, so I don't understand what that poster was talking about.

1-3% doing the get out of my way I have a wifebeater and fancy tats, or just being disrespectful in their attitudes, or playing the

I think KSR a mixture of people, but you do get dicks.
I personally have a bigger dislike for the two week tourists who really do walk around all tatted up with no clothes trying to cause as much mayhem as possible.
They tend not to venture into KSR.
