Re: Kampot Water Splashing Causes Barang Motocycle Accident
I’ve found that the ones who proclaim to “understand Khmer culture” the most are exactly the type you just described. They think elephant pants = Khmer culture. I can’t stand them. As a Westerner, they embarrass me.Indeed, some of the biggest cnuts were the . foreigners. Got into an argument last year with some foreigners who accused me of not understanding "Khmer culture". This from some soy-latte-sipping, beg-packing, hipster-wannabes, orphanage volunteers who looked like they had been in country for about three days .
Cambodia: where money can buy you absolutely anything except intelligence.

Out of all of the chaos, the thing that pissed me off the most were the numerous Barang participating and acting recklessly. The local culture may not fully understand the implications of blasting someone riding a motorbike in the eyes with a high powered water gun. But someone from a fully-developed and advanced country absolutely should. Granted, you should be wearing face/eye protection while riding, but this makes no difference when 6 people are aiming for your face at the same time and blinding you with water. I witnessed several Barang intentionally aiming for and shooting people in the eyes and face with water guns - I was even hit myself by a white woman who laughed at me as she did it. Eye protection or not, these water guns are powerful and can cause real damage to people. By all means have a good time, but FFS have some goddam common sense.

For those who haven't seen it, here is a video. Skip the first couple of minutes. Most of it is fun, but some people are stupid.
Where I was, there were a lot more people.

Here is another one showing how they create traffic jams. In one area this type of situation continued for about five kilometers, and people took a long time to get anywhere. There was a line up of maybe 200 vehicles, all going very slow.

Why would they run away ?CEOCambodiaNews wrote: ↑Tue Apr 16, 2019 5:03 pm Kampot, Cambodia News: On April 13, 2019,at 5:15pm, a French man and his sister were in a motorbike accident in Kampot that was caused by the Khmer New Year traditional water splashing. The French man was quite badly scraped on his face, hands, and leg, and his sister hurt her hand. The people who caused the accident ran away to escape.

People shouldn't really be surprised by it, as this happens every year, forums in Thailand especially are full of people complaining about it each year
Yes its ridiculous & stupid behaviour that has got out of control in some areas, but if you do decide to go out on a motorbike, you should be expecting it really & travelling at low speeds

This is actually quite recent in Cambodia; until a few years ago you'd see no high-powered water guns, just the odd splashing from a cup.jaynewcastle wrote: ↑Fri Apr 19, 2019 11:27 pm People shouldn't really be surprised by it, as this happens every year, forums in Thailand especially are full of people complaining about it each year
