Is Kampot Town Turning into a Red Light District ?
Re: Is Kampot Town Turning into a Red Light District ?
As opposed from the being married to a much younger girl and having nothing left and her going around town saying the same thing.

It is next to some reggae themed pizza place just off the riverside I think. It looked busy later on at night with the Rusty 2 crowd amongst others.ItWasntMe wrote: ↑Wed Jul 13, 2022 8:31 pmTo be fair there is some new people around.Alex wrote: ↑Wed Jul 13, 2022 8:16 pm For what it's worth (and I didn't make a headcount), I'm having the impression that I see more young-ish backpackers (often couples) around town than single old guys. Also quite some in the middle, age-wise, such as myself. Even some families. They all seem to be well catered for.
I imagine Nowhere Bar doing well though have not seen their new place.
Cannot imagine the bars in the old market doing well though, there are a select few with a loyal crew but the new ones living from the occasional drop in... that's going to be difficult. I went into one of them and they double charged me right away. I somewhat assume that is the state of business for most of these new bars.
I was in Kampot for 2 weeks in June. The average expat looked to be the grizzled Snooky refugee type with a 20 year old motorbike and a lack of sleeves on his clothes. There was also representations from the younger hipster crowd and a very large French community. Around the market there were 5 or 6 girlie bars and it seemed a significant number. I remember visiting in 08 or 09* and there was only one girlie bar called The Honey Pot.

Neither sounds appealing to this internet user.atst wrote: ↑Wed Jul 13, 2022 8:44 pmAs opposed from the being married to a much younger girl and having nothing left and her going around town saying the same thing.
But who knows, maybe later in life even such a setup would be a good deal.

Not sure about the traveling costs post-coated but I would imagine it's still high and low seasons and it's normally a cheap time to travel around now.

I just saw it in the "similar topics" a two-bedroom apartment on Riverside for rent, which sparked my attention, until I saw "very close to Kampot." Maybe globally.

I can't see punters heading to Kampot for 'girly bar action'.
What girly bars are open are a mixed bag. Some very friendly and attentive. Others the girls spend an hour looking into the bar mirror and adjusting makeup. Then walk past customers in the bar enjoying beer and sit outside looking at their phones!!!!!!
Also not many 'lookers' . Seems like many need to drop a few pounds.

There's plenty of young people about and there is quite a community of them that have parties and activities.Alex wrote: ↑Wed Jul 13, 2022 8:16 pm For what it's worth (and I didn't make a headcount), I'm having the impression that I see more young-ish backpackers (often couples) around town than single old guys. Lots of face book posts about live music and get togethers. Shared working spaces for nomads
yesterday saw a group of 5 young ladies walking down the street.
Wide choice of restaurants run by youngish westerners as well.
PLus , like i mentioned before, some quite good resorts on the river in the $20-30 range that have activates.
I know 1/2 dozen or so families with young kids living here as well.
Just in the day time you dont see them out and about and all i can figure is the reason the older guys are out at 10-noon drinking is cause they go to bed early and are up early an nothing to do but drink the drafts to extend the time out of their rooms
never there at night so cant comment on what its like

A general question: What's the weather like in Kampot? AccuWeather and Weather.com show historical temps (2021) topping out at 31, with rare jumps to 33-35. Lots of cloudy days.
After a dozen years in Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam, the heat and humidity are getting to me, especially being stuck here during three straight stupid hot seasons. It would be nice to have a break from 35-plus.
Thanks.
