Kampot Tours and Travel Sucks
I booked a ticket (9:45 AM pick-up at hotel, travel to Ha Tien and ferry) from Kampot to Phu Quoc with Kampot Tours and Travel. Everything was fine and went exactly as described here -
http://www.movetocambodia.com/transport ... -cambodia/
... until we got to Ha Tien.
The van from the border to Ha Tien town was absolutely packed (overfull with some people unable to sit... but it's a short 10-15 min. ride). There were people going to many places in Vietnam.
We stopped at a travel agency in Ha Tien and they called out "Phu Quoc". Everyone going to Phu Quoc got tickets for the Super Dong ferry... EXCEPT for a French couple and myself! The van started to pull away and I yelled "Stop... we didn't get tickets". The driver wouldn't stop and said something in Vietnamese (which I couldn't hear because the van was so packed), and proceeded to the Super Dong terminal... where those with tickets got out to board the 1:15 PM ferry (which gets them to Phu Quoc at 2:35). Then, the driver proceeded (back) to a terminal on the other side of the harbour where the French couple and myself were given tickets for the 2:00 PM 'slow ferry' (Thriving 5) to Phu Quoc... which takes three fuckin' hours, doesn't arrive until 5:00 PM, and goes to a different terminal where there are NO taxies (because all the 'locals' have driven on).
Beware travel to Phu Quoc. I don't know if the Super Dong was sold out... and the three of us (who didn't get tickets on it) were just unlucky, or...
What I do know is we were not refunded any money for having to take the slower, cheaper ferry.

With respect to your claim that the Vietnamese stole Phu Quoc, which I hope was tongue in cheek,I suggest you read the article

Re: Kampot Tours and Travel Sucks
how'd you know it was the fault of KT &TS? (odd name that - but travel does suck some times)
not that long ago someone bad mouth'd a SHV travel agent because of a problem on a plane.....but he never went back and discussed it with the agent just took the air lines word it was not the fault of the airline so blamed the agent ....who has a good reputation gained over years of reliable service.....

Sounds like you got what you asked for: transport to the ferry and a ferry to phu quoc. Did you check with the agent which ferry you'd be on?

Re: Kampot Tours and Travel Sucks
Thanks to JBTrain for posting the correct link. With regard to the OP,unfortunately this habit of travel agents putting people on the slow ferry seems to be on the increase. There are two reasons, firstly the Superdong seems to be increasingly sold out, even though there are now usually four crossings a day by two boats, and some days more than eight crossings by four different boats. It's getting much busier even now in the supposed low season,I dread to think what it's going to be like in the high season.I always recommend people to travel here independently, don't use the travel agents, get here the day before you want to go to Phu Quoc, and book the boat by yourself. The slow car ferry does take much longer, and now comes in just south of the Superdong at Bai Vong.It used to go to Bai Thom in the N/E corner of the island. On the plus side, the car ferries all have a nice big A/C bar with cold beer! The second reason the travel agents put people on the car ferry is that they make more money,as the Superdong costs 230,000VND and the car ferry 185 000 VND.I have lived in Ha Tien for 7 years, and I haven't used any of the travel agents for 3 years,as I was sick and tired of the lies and delays I always got on every trip.

Yes, the 'Sea Lounge' is actually quite nice and was not busy. It made the trip bearable. Trouble was, it took me half the trip to find it (didn't notice the big red neon sign on the car deck).
