Kampot Man Posts About Giving a Lift to a Brit on a Dark Night
Kampot, Cambodia News: A Cambodian man has posted on social media that on the night of April 18, at 11 pm, he helped an unidentified British man by offering him a free ride on a dark road about 7kms from Kampot City.
The account named B Chai Khmer posted " He wasn't my friend, he was a stranger that I saw walking on the quiet and dark road, he waved for help. I spoke a bit of English, so I asked him to get a ride with me. I asked him why he walked; he told me that he didn't have money for motordub and there weren't any motordups there at that time of night.
So then I took him to where he was staying. He thanked me a lot and asked me to take a picture. He came from England.

It was I think a year ago this holiday.
Basically one of the buses from Phnom Penh, we borded for the journey to Kampong Cham.
The driver droped us this side of Tsubasa bridge telling us another bus was waiting at the market to carry on are journey. Moto dop arranged to get us there. But no! Lie. Anyway after arguing now with a group of moto dop's with nothing better to do, about payment due to him. Thing is I actually saw the bus driver pay him. Anyway when the police arrived, probably because I was dancing around in the road banging my empty pockets, and telling them my lady friend was taking me on holiday. Anyway the moto's speed away, now just me buying a coffee at the roadside stall with police onlooking from the corner. Then a taxi turned up. Arangements and ride to Prey Veng. But then it was a problem, no bus or taxi out of Prey Veng. It was getting dark too. Hotel's, no chance, full or closed. I asked a few people in restaurants where their destination was "hoping". So walking along the roadside with my thumb out. The girl said "what are you doing". I thought the same but on different line's. With Khmer coming out of shops and houses, well I was certainly giving some entertainment. About the 10th car. Two soldiers, we had our lift to the destination doorstep, and free of charge.
Always "hope" but never "expect".

My wife and I picked up an elderly couple who were having trouble getting a mini bus to stop. It was hot and they were both in their 80s and he had a dodgy leg.
We took them into town, where they got a taxi, and gave them two bottles of water.
We didn’t put it on Facebook or take a selfie.

Yeah, I think cambodians are pretty good at helping people with a lift when they need it. That has been my experience on the few occasions I have been stranded.
But same as everywhere on the planet, the offer comes from ordinary people, rarely from the rich.

We got stuck in some sand a few days back, dude with a Range Rover towed us out. Didn't take any photos, it was dusty for a start.
Silence, exile, and cunning.

I’m amazed the Range Rover didn’t explode into a million pieces.John Bingham wrote: ↑Sat Apr 20, 2019 6:51 pm We got stuck in some sand a few days back, dude with a Range Rover towed us out. Didn't take any photos, it was dusty for a start.

No good deed is complete until you post about it on social media and pat yourself on the back.
