a bust from 12years ago and now he has gone into stealing motorbikes in Cambodia...

Whose going to buy a old rental without the correct paperwork?
Probably owed on the bike, didnt have the $$ to pay the rental, so got is passport back an just left it somewhere

Not at all. I never even remotely implied that. They had a mechanism in place to prevent this exact thing from happening. They bypassed their own mechanism. They should absolutely try and recover the bike but if they can’t, this is an expensive lesson.
Cambodia: where money can buy you absolutely anything except intelligence.

I just had breakfast at the guest house.

This is now resolved the American got in touch with the guest house yesterday and paid an agreed amount for the loss of the moto & rental income.
The guest house updated the facebook post for reflect that fact.
Several hours later they removed the posts from FB.
