Re: Kampong Cham
90 percent of people there are in the trade on Friday and Saturday as this article clearly states:
do you see a lot of tourists here?
As far as "back in the day" people say that about everything and everywhere. Times change, and what was true in the 80's is no longer true today.
Your opinion is greatly at variance with my own solid experience and the opinions of the industry, generally accepted as fact.
See more at : https://www.thailandee.com/en/visit-th ... andee.comChanthaburi is known for its cathedral and for its gemstone weekend market that is not far from it. But it's not a market for tourists at all. Here, professional traders analyze and buy stones for jewelers and wholesalers

I assume you are talking about a hill in Snooky. The Tanya I knew first started out in Mondulkiri, then moved to Kampong. Cham and later to one of the islands off Snooky. She later passed away on a visit to PP.

A fabulous, independent, intelligent, adventurous spirit - with a great library. And a little bit mad but in a wonderful way.
I last saw her in Phnom Penh after she came off the catering contract for the BHP gold surveys up north. Very capable woman.
Very sad news, but thanks for letting us know.
Re: Kampong Cham
I have lived in Koh Kong and believe me its in for big change. But then again unfortunately so is all of the Kingdom. Kampong Cham I had rented a room for quite sometime, being I was back and forward it was worth keeping on at the time, still saving then staying in hotels, one street back from riverside $50 per month furnished and cheapest bills I have paid in Cambodia. Had also looked at many properties around town with business in mind. Again a few streets back from the riverside found a gem but didn't commit due to many thing going on. This property had outside parking, the first room you could fit three cars end to end, inside with plenty of room around them, the second room kitchen after the first toilets on the ground floor, space for two cars then outside to small backyard with toilet and washing room building to the side. Upstairs I did not like the layout, but easy to work with being stud walls and landlord was fine with work to improve, but it was mainly open plan leading to a street view balcony. Price $220 per month. There are plenty of properties at the suburbs of town also. The last one I viewed was a relative new build in a new area, layout was 3 floors, gated covered large patio type entrance then two ground floor rooms and toilet. 1st and 2nd floors 3 bedrooms on each, one master with bathroom on each floor front facing with balcony's. The other two bedrooms on each of the floors with shared bathroom. $350 per month.
The French Mustache boys from the hill have a place in town of three floors and full roof terrace at $400 if I am not mistaken with price. Also the pizza place at the night market is a good place to hang and chill, apparently good also with rents. Supermarket one not too bad, unfortunately the large tower block in town is the new one but still unfinished. But has it as been mentioned Phnom Penh for shopping 10.000reil on the minibus 2 hours.
Phnom Penh expensive Frank! I live over the river and have a place on two floors $120 per month government bills.
Always "hope" but never "expect".

All rentals from the main boulevard(plauepluas) to the riverside are outrageously priced. The other locations attract primarily Khmer clientele.

Tanya started out with MASH / Melting Pot on the Hill in SHV in the late 90's, then opened in Kep, before anyone else, but that did not work out. Then she moved to Mondulkiri and Kampong Cham and the islands. She later moved back to SHV from the islands and died in PP. We interned her ashes at Wat Krom in SHV about 2016.taabarang wrote: ↑Sun Aug 18, 2019 10:59 amI assume you are talking about a hill in Snooky. Re: Kampong Cham
Thanks for the update. She had a business history prior to Mondul which I was unaware of even though I arrived in the mid 60s and was a frequent visitor to Snookyville. I not only miss her cooking but her dry humor and direct manner of speaking.
