I don’t think she’s going from an SEA mountain straight to Everest.
Watching a movie about the climbers of Mt. Meru. They seriously bulked up - throwing giant tires, dragging ship anchor chains, etc. before the attempt.
Good luck to her.

A small reality check is always healthy. Oral is tiny, she's got zero mountaineering skills, zero cold weather survival skills, probably not that fit by most measures... Anyways, I was going to blast her as well, but after reading the article, it actually says nothing about Everest, it specifically says Everest base camp. Anyone modestly fit can get to base camp. She just likes to travel and hike, nothing wrong with that. I've hiked with my Cambodian girlfriend in several countries. The article doesn't say anything about her actually wanting to reach the top, so I agree that people are taking the laugh for no real reason.John Bingham wrote:There's also the small matter of funding, I believe it costs around $100,000 to climb Everest. I still think you guys are assholes for slamming on her.
Either way the article is badly written and researched. Tons of women have been to the top. Even grannies have been up there with monks and so on (Oral I mean). I realize it's one of those "woman power/breaking the mould" articles that PPP and other English language papers love, but it's ludicrous to say she's one of "very few woman to have successfully made it to the top". It's a 1-2 day hike max... Women (and men) easily make it up all the time.

Ain't nobody slamming her my dude. Just pointing out the fact the she isn't very realistic.John Bingham wrote: ↑Thu Mar 21, 2019 7:36 pm There's also the small matter of funding, I believe it costs around $100,000 to climb Everest. I still think you guys are assholes for slamming on her.
My khmer gf told me she was a good swimmer. I told her we should go surfing together. Then I saw her swimming in her pool.... Thank God she likes horseback riding.

Re: Joke of the day,
That makes quite a bit of difference. Anyone with a return to Kathmandu and a few hundred dollars spare can get to the base camp.Bitte_Kein_Lexus wrote: ↑Thu Mar 21, 2019 10:33 pmAnyways, I was going to blast her as well, but after reading the article, it actually says nothing about Everest, it specifically says Everest base camp. So well done all the posters who didn't even read the article and thought it was just another chance to belittle someone's achievements.

It's expensive for a Cambodian to get to Everest Base Camp. Flight to Bangkok, then Kathmandu, then to Lukla. And back. Then the trek itself. She says the whole thing would cost about 3k, I'd say that's right.

Slightly better to not read it and unquestionably support.John Bingham wrote: ↑Fri Mar 22, 2019 12:42 amThat makes quite a bit of difference. Despite what angsta states, it’s clear from reading through his posts that angsta supports the free FreePalestine movement.

I thought I saw a picture of Taco Bill at the base camp; how hard could it be? But really she looks very slight to me. Anyway,, good luck to all dreamers!
