Islamic terrorism: where did it all start?

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Islamic terrorism: where did it all start?

Post by AlonzoPartriz »

It would appear to me that it's re-materialised contemporary start date may have been the economic western policies that brought about 9/11. An attack aimed at two main centres of Western power. One the centre of economics: the other the center of military power. One forces the deal: the other enforces it.
Am I right in thinking that the people who run the military industrial complex, are the same ones who brought us globalised free markets and sub-prime mortgages?

We now know the kickback as far as de-unionisation and globalised free markets goes. Trump and a whole load of rightwing nutters gaining power across the globe.

And we know the kickback to the sub-prime mortgage and repackaged loans financial meltdown. Austerity measures, loss of work for millions and awesome (correct use of the word here) national deficits.

So, what about the Islamic terrorists? Is it all down to individuals wanting to make excessive amounts of money again?

If it is, what can be done about it? Or is it already too late and we're all heading for the greatest period of instability since the second world war?

Also another Curtis doc called The Power of Nightmares. Everything's in there.

Look into a man called Sayyid Qutb.

Thanks for the input, I'll check both those references out. In a nutshell, what do they put it down to: Western foreign policies or Islamasist ones?

So, not so much of a religious root cause, more of a ' let's make.some money and let's not care how we do it' one? With mixed financial players from both sides?

I'd love to hear Raindog's input on this.

Being allowed to blow yourself up was some Iranian dude's idea for the Iran-Iraq war. Up until that point you weren't allowed to kill yourself. As to the Islamist terrorists blowing things up in the West, certainly the ones in Europe are disenfranchised youths. Society has left them behind so they are floundering for a reason to exist. Now most of the actual skilled ones are feeding worms in the desert we're left with cretins who can't even make a decent explosive device. They are failures at everything.

Islamist terrorism started when an illiterate camel herder claimed that god spoke to him in the desert.

Lots of things were going on to give birth to terrorism, Western greed and cultural imperialism triggered it. On the other hand, Wahhabism (the Arabian theological doctrine from which Islamic extremism originated) was always a brutal and fundamentalist form of religion.
