Introduce Yourself

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. Hi Gerry here.

I’m a (fairly )regular visitor to Manila pre pandemic for poker and vacation. 38 years old and been making a reasonable living at the poker table for around 5 years now. Looking to visit Cambodia within the next 6 months with the view of possibly staying there longer term if the life is good and more importantly the games are good. Don’t think it’s too far on a flight to Macau or Manila so could be the perfect place for me.

I'll be in Phnom Penh in mid-late may for a couple weeks. Staying within walking distance to places to play poker and stay out until 4am and i'm sure i'll be doing a bit of both. First time digital nomading this far out of the timezone that i work so it'll be fun almost never being up during the day, bringing plenty of ear plugs.

Hello all, quite intersted in the country and planning a visit. Context on myself, I'm very interested in Fire - "financial independent retire early" and just curious to see if Cambodia fits the bill.

Other than that travelled throughout SE Asia and this is next on the list post covid.

Well here it goes,

My name is Ken, just turned 57, and after 4 years military and almost 31 years at the Post Office I decided to call it quits on January 31st. I delayed my retirement by 8 months because of Covid, or I already would be in SE Asia. Unfortunately OPM is taking their sweet-ass time with processing my paperwork, so I won’t be there until November, I was hoping August. But it’s all good.

My original plan was to retire in Thailand, which I truly love, but after looking at Cambodia and the simplicity of their Visa, and all the requirements associated with the Thai Retirement Visa, I have decided to try Cambodia. But I’m usually good no matter where I’m at, so we’ll see how it plays out. My only reservation is the food situation. My taste pallet is geared more towards Thai/Lao, not that I don’t like meat and potatoes from time to time, but I need the spice. 🤪 Done some reading, but not familiar with the food in that country.

I’m a reserved and laid back person, quiet and can keep to myself, don’t take shit too seriously, can fly solo or with a few people. I’m more of a people watcher. Can talk sports, music, cars, bikes, and women, but when drinking, politics and religion are off the table for me. The reason I chose SE Asia is because everything moves in slow motion from my experience, and I’m hoping Cambodia is the same.

Anyway, I guess that’s me.

Some Khmer food can be spicy or you can spice it up yourself. Plenty of spicy Thai, Indian and Indonesian food available here.
