Introduce Yourself

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Hello! I'm a 19 year old college student from Utah and I just found out I'll be doing my Mormon mission to Cambodia. I was hoping to go to a nice South Pacific tropical country like Tonga or Fiji but this was not in God's plan.

I have a few questions:

Is the country really as dirty as everyone says? I hear that trash piles up in the streets.

Are the Cambodians serious Buddhists or will they be open to accepting Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior? I'll be starting intensive Khmer language training very soon so that I can talk to them in their own language.

I'm single, where are some bars where I can meet a nice girl? I'll be there for two years.

A few answers to a few questions,:

1) It's dirtier than a Mormon's sexual fantasies.

2). If the money's right they will accept the devil as their saviour except for a handful.of devout Buddhists. A promise of a Visa to Salt Lake City will also be an enticement.

3). As for language may your Lord and. Saviour help you in small villages full of impoverished uneducated farmers.

4) You, a Mormon, want to meet a NICE girl in a Khmer bar? You'll lose your religion, money and virginity at the same time. Better leave the bicycle helmet and deacon name tag at home. And as for plans. Man proposes, God disposes.
As my old Cajun bait seller used to say, "I opes you luck.

Wow, thanks for those four points. All four bashed my religion. I ask about bars because I happen to like Coke Zero and pretty girls. Nothing sinful about that.

Point 4 is very Germaine young Padawan.

It is dirty, hot, and many pretty girls.

I have always found young elders willing to have a few beers when they are not under surveillance.

Khmers are pretty open minded regarding religion.
They will have no idea what you are talking about.

Just steer clear of the crucifixion and drinking blood, eating the body of Christ.

That really grosses them out.

Hello Mormon Stu,
Have you ever been out of Utah ? Im afraid the Cambodian bar scene is a bit different than what you are used to.
Also yes, most Cambodians are Buddhists, and yes, there is trash everywhere.
However, Cambodians are very tolerant toward missionaries, foreigners and fools in general.

I hope you will post here about your first impressions of Cambodia, and then we' ll see if it lines up with what you expected.

Have to agree, and they all seem to speak Khmer so are off to a good start from the time they arrive.

Also, have never seen one wearing a wife beater, shorts and flip flops.
Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.

Yes. I've been to Arizona, California, Denver, Chicago and a bachelor party in Tijuana last year.

Hello too Stu,

No worries about Mormons here,
