Introduce Yourself

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

I’m Roadrunner. I graduate from Law School in Houston(America) on the 12th of this month. I’m leaving to Thailand on the 14th for a month then I’m headed to Cambodia for the next while, we will see how long. Look forward to meeting everyone and great advice on things to do!

With only six days to go before your graduation, is there any chance that it may be cancelled or delayed . WW3,, USA$ collapses, etc. . If not, then welcome to your second country of choice , when you get here.
Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.

Despite what angsta states, it’s clear from reading through his posts that angsta supports the free FreePalestine movement.

Don't know why I am even posting here.....

I own some businesses in both Cambodia and Vietnam. I first came to Cambodia/Vietnam in 2006. Apart from my investments, I undertake some research projects for outside agencies and maybe around 3 or 4 times a year I go out into the field in both countries where I engage in some volunteer work in both countries involving detection and demolition of UXO (un-exploded ordinance). I am a lvl 4 Bomb Technician.

Given the political climate of Cambodia, and my outspoken nature, I intend to not give away much about myself. I do not want to feel the brunt/reprisals of the big man. I do not link myself to my investments here or on other sites so as to continue with some anonymity. When a buddy of mine in PP from UK who was very vocal about his opinions of the big man on his facebook page returned to UK in late 2016 and was refused re-entry after Christmas that year without reasons given, this told me we are all being monitored. My country of origin and background that might identify me I keep quiet. I could easily to my financial gain promote my investments here, but I will not so as to maintain my anonymity.

I provide donations regularly to a couple reputable orphanages and was previously an active member with the now defunct Grayman Project that rescued kids from child prostitution.

I carry a bit of lead and other small metal fragments in my body from past endeavors. This is a clue that I have previously been active in a service that would attracts such metal intrusions of the human body.

I was born before 1965, but after 1950.

I am passionately in love with Vietnam and Cambodia. I love the people, but in both cases, am in opposition of their governments.

Quite the introduction, thanks. I assumed Artful Dodger was your real name. For the record, it's no issue if you have a second account for your business. I assume quite a lot of people do that, on here and also across most social media platforms.

Just sticking my head around the door to say hi.

So, Hi! And thanks for the welcome so far.
I was a recent visitor to Cambodia, after many years of nearly getting there, while randomly wandering around other bits of Asia in between work. Just as randomly, I bumped into this forum. Often, getting an experienced expat POV is useful. I shall likely be throwing a few questions around once I've failed miserably to find the answer myself.
I can see myself slowly migrating towards the country over the next couple of years, with a return in the very near future.

I've already seen several references to Cambodian driving laws/customs. International driving licence not recognised?
In advance of my next trip, I wonder if I might get some pointers in that regard, and some info on renting a vehicle (if possible) to self drive. Importing one of my own?

I have to say- when you see a sign that implies no 'hand grenades' (jest or other) as you enter, it does cause a curious eyebrow raise. But not much really surprises me these days.

Looking forward to being a new kid on the block. Again....

Hi Freight dog, and welcome to CEO.

We have a whole sub-forum just for that, called "Ask the Expats," where you can ask the community anything, and will almost certainly get helpful answers from one or many. And really feel free to ask us ANYTHING, because if you have a certain question, it's highly likely that one or more of the other 7 billion people on this planet seek the same answers.

From what I recall when I looked into it years ago, Cambodia SHOULD recognize most foreign driver's licenses, but simply don't. Go figure.

That said, you no longer need a license for small scooters/motorbikes in Cambodia.

Thanks for the introduction!
