Introduce Yourself

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Yes, I'm big on Sid Meier. It's good to hear you're a teacher! I've also been looking into Python lately; a walk in the park on a sunny day compared to some other stuff; it should be taught from Grade 1 onwards, so the kids can hack the burger flipping robots when they get to be teens.

I should be ashamed to admit I've logged over 2000 hours on Civ (from about III onwards) but I'm not. Agree with you on Python, if by Python you actually mean C++ for Arduino sketches.

Did you hear someone unleashed a burger flipping robot recently, it handled the job perfectly but they had to shut it down? Turns out it drew such a crowd, the human staff couldn't keep up with it to meet the extra demand.

When I heard that the burger flippin' robot was in operation, it jolted me. I stopped playing games and started getting serious about upping my programming skills. I didn't follow up on that burger story though.

Certainly, robots will replace garment workers with their ability to work in the dark, without air con, 24/7 and without any fainting. A frightening thought for low and semi-skilled workers in Cambodia. If they don't start getting their heads around industrial programming and robot repair their future will be bleaker than it already is.

Last year, I spent over 520 hours playing Transport Fever, 10 + hours per week. I'm big on train games, Mashinsky, Railway Empire and Sid Meier''s Railroads! Also, I've loved Tropico since version 1.0. If Tropico could marry Transport Fever, I would be so happy. Perhaps it'll happen in Tropico 6. I'm hanging out for that as much as the new season of Better Call Saul!

A neighbour a few doors down from our previous house had an automated weaving loom, I presume for "hand-making" Cambodian silk fabric. It took a fair while to work out what the quiet but constant noise was. It turns out those things work 24/7 without fainting too. Bastards.
