Introduce Yourself

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Do I pack in a moderately paying job that bores me to death and escape for a year (or more if my savings allow) or do I stick it out and be miserable, the 9-5 lifestyle is pretty boring and I don't think I'll survive long enough until retirement age anyway, plus I don't plan on having kids so buying a house for £300,000 seems like a massive anchor.

I digress, hello forum I look forward to reading some classic threads tonight if anyone can point me to some :)
Fuck the job off, fuck the system, im 29 from England, spent most of the past 5years out here, no regrets

Hi forum
Take money and take time to learn the language.

NJH covers most aspects of living in cambodia but he lost a lot of following due to coming out the "cyber closet " and falling in love with ladyboys.

Worst advice ever. Pay no attention to this doofus, he has never lived here and hasn't got a clue what he's talking about.

there is bar/hostel/cooking jobs in cambodia and they should cover atleast food board and beer plus some small money for survival until you find something better like teaching of or an NGO gig.

a 3 month visa is around 70 something USD or a year for 270 USD and agency will take care of thank no questions asked.
Cambodia is a dual currency country using USD and KHR
average prices are about
4000 riel is 1 USD

big water 50 cents USD

local beer is 50 cents USD per small

rice porridge is around 0.65 cent

noodles from 65 cents a bowl.

a plate of pork rice for 1.25 USD.

banana shake for 1 USD.

a cheap hotel in the party ares is 10 USD a night .

its very easy to meet expats lots of bar flys and sex tourists in phnom phen and sihinoukville .

lots of backpackers in siem reap ,battambang, kampot and otres.

You never lived here so stop misleading people on a topic you are utterly clueless about. NJH crashed and burned here over the course of two years, and had to borrow money off the embassy to get home. I suppose that seems like a great achievement to you.

NJH did have some valid information on the KoW about social aspects of being a white foreigner Cambodia.
interestingly enough he was never accepted by khmer440 or CEO for reasons unknown.

I was just kidding. I appreciate all the info you give, especially on the price of banana shakes and hooker girls.
