Never heard of it Dragon? What the deportees who served their time and got deported for good.

And it's not a secret that Indonesia is a sex paradise for the Australians.

Never heard of that either... not after their time is served at least. Some countries choose not to let such people inside, but their own countries have no real grounds to hold them from leaving.

EDIT: Also, US criminals get their right to vote back after their time is served as well. In fact, they include a voter registration form with the release documentation.
Australians in prison can vote in federal elections unless their sentence is more than three years. Once out of prison they may enrol to vote again regardless if how long their sentence was.

As for travel. Countries within the "five eyes", that is Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the United States can access the Australian crimtrac database able to view criminal records of Australians.

As for sex offenders. The AFP provide information to the destination country and transit countries of the offenders past and likelihood to commit further crimes. There are a number of documented cases of Australian sex offenders being turned away from numerous countries in south east Asia including Indonesia.

Any alleged offender on bail or convicted offender on parole will not be able to clear Australian customs as their name will be flagged.

i disgress.

i've been in indonesia months ago, starting from Bali, and it's not even remotely on par with thailand or cambodia.

talking about Kuta for instance, you see lots of massages everywhere but they don't do any extras apart rare cases, only a few girls will agree to come with you after their shift and they'll expect 20-30$ short time so no bargain considering the cost of living is more or less on par with cambodia.

and then you have the freelancers in the discos and a few bars but it's not much, the whoring is going on in Sanur where there are many dodgy massages, not Kuta or Seminyak where most of the tourists stay.

in Ubud forget it, you'll have a hard time finding a single massage with happy ending and it won't come cheap either.

Jakarta, mostly high end prostitution, not worth it, or street shit that i haven't investigated as the girls look like a wreck.

so, yes there is prostitution in every town but is low profile and of low quality and not worth the price.
claiming it's a sex paradise is total bullshit, i would say it's on par with Siem Reap or Vietnam actually : some hookers, usually of mediocre quality, pushing for high prices because there's little competiton, a seller's market.

I quite liked Bali personally but I wouldn't go there looking for hookers. Cost of living I'd put considerably cheaper than Phnom Penh and better, cheaper food with more options. Faster internet. No bank fees using CBA atms. Just sucks that long term visa's are difficult and expensive.

maybe you've been there a long time ago, the gasoline there costs almost half than here (cheapest in asia ?) but anything else is on par or more expensive than here.

the traffic is a mess and as bad as in PP.

internet, same as here, in PP you can get a 4mbit ADSL with metfone for 20$/month.

booze, definitely more expensive than in cambo.

western food, it depends but more or less like here if you eat out, in supermarkets it's good they've a Carrefour also, but nothing really special pricewise, Ubud in particular is overpriced for everything.

i spent a lot less around Java and Jakarta, Bali is a horrible tourist trap, as bad as SIem Reap.

Jakarta is GREAT for food.
problem is, moving around is crazy you can waste even 1 hour in a taxi to make 2 km, worse than Bangkok.

Java, better and less crowded, but still a mess and limited options of food and nightlife.

Bali, another paradise destroyed by greed, as bad as Phuket in any way.
Ubud the best thing in Bali but ruined by traffic and noise and scams.

for anything else, same sceneries as here but with great beaches and a few volcanos.
same fruits, same vegetables, same fish and meat, no big deal.
the locals always trying to rip you off, in Java a lot more friendly and honest.

but again, the fucking aussies destroyed Bali, they're paying way too much and giving out too many tips.
now the locals are greedy fuckers and won't bargain much, why bother when the next australian will pay crazy prices without giving a shit ?

beatiful vbalinese illas, relatively cheap, but once you go out of the door you can't move because the traffic is so bad.

don't even think about taking a ferry boat or a private boat, it's cheaper to take an airplane to Lombok !!
and every month somebody die in the sea because they overload the boats, 30-40 dead last week.

OD, you sure about that? I'm pretty sure this depends on the state. Some states permanently ban felons from voting and others ban certain felons from voting, depending on their crime.

lol. things have changed then. Staying in Medawi in 2002 with some mates. Vicco copper in the room next door. We all got toey on the arak one night and the copper said he could organise some fluff from Negara. 4 hours later, no show from the girls, I reckon I got away the best sting of my life 'Sarge, you are a typical Victorian cop - you can't even organise a root in a brothel?' Even he laughed ( but I must admit, the life I was leading at the time, I'm pleased I was a Queenslander ay!
