Holy Fuck!
Re: Impending Violence in Phnom Penh
So the monks want the ban on spitted cow? How strange. How about a ban on their endless extremely loud chanting at all hours at those many days funerals. Just another example of how religions work. Make the people believe that they have to put on a lavish funeral with massive speakers to impress everyone and they must pay the Wat to have their representatives chant through the massive loudspeaker system for hours so the Wat can get money to build more Wats to make people believe that they need to give more money to the Wat's to build more Wats, on, and on and on.....
Christianity and Islam aren't much better ( or worse.) Take all the wealth hidden in the Vatican and really help people instead of telling people that they can't use birth control. (got to keep making good little Catholic's) I'd believe more in religion if they all took a vow of poverty and a vow to stay out of politics.
I wouldn't belong to any religion that would have me as a member.
Everyone should believe in something, I believe I will have another beer.

I like the sound of the chanting. I find it comforting, as I imagine many of the people who have grown up with it do as well.

It may sound pedantic to one who simply does not care, but let's not conflate Christianity and Roman Catholicism...Sailorman wrote:Christianity and Islam aren't much better ( or worse.) Take all the wealth hidden in the Vatican and...

^ Why not?, the Catholics invented it. The other versions are just Clones.

Und der Haifisch der hat Tränen
Und die laufen vom Gesicht
Doch der Haifisch lebt im Wasser
So die Tränen sieht man nicht
In der Tiefe ist es einsam
Und so manche Träne fliesst
Und so kommt es dass das Wasser
In den Meeren salzig ist

Your question inspired me to check whether there is a 'god<dot>com'.Milord wrote: Who owns God?
There is, but I'm sure it doesn't hold the answer to your question.

I was too lazy to type "except Coptic Christians". And knew that you would pick it up. lolStroppyChops wrote:Bollocks to that - ever met a Coptic Christian? But you're right, probably the most original and pure form. Lets be honest, even they have been reduced to "cult status" compared to the Big "C" one.
I also agree with your quipe answer, "The legal and insurance industries." when it comes to matters of State and law.
I have been in the back room negotiations between Catholics and Government before the Pope's visit to Toronto in the '80's. Catholics were demanding a free Helicopter Pad that would be used once, from the Gov of Ontario, and the Gov could not agree fast enough. All in His visit cost $60 Million. OMG.

Lutheranism started in the early 1530′s [proclamation 1519] when catholic priest Martin Luther announced to reform the church and split from the Catholic Church in protest. Anglicans also split from Catholicism at about the same time as the Lutherans, in 1534, but both of them had very different significant reasons to leave the church.
Lutherans left the church to protest against the remission of the punishment of sins, whereas Anglicans left the church when King Henry of England outlawed Catholicism, and declared the Anglican Church to be the official religion. Lutheranism was founded in Germany, whereas Anglicanism started in England with Henry’s Act of Supremacy.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Byzan ... mated2.gifKing Henry’s original protest was against jurisdiction, rather than theology. This would be in the same manner as the Eastern Church. There are Russian, Greek, and Coptic churches all in communion with each other, and all Orthodox. This would be, in essence, an orthodox English Church.

So what is my point.
In my simple mind as a Choirboy, Anglicans got Real Wine, United got Grape Juice, R. Catholics got none, only the Priests drank.
But later in life (20s) I realized the differences were based on Power: Land Acquisition, Wealth, Rights to Lawmaking, Tax Free Status, Control of Traditions/Culture, and Claim to Own God's Favour.
This Power was misused and "Cambodian Justice" was the result. Especially the Priest's ability to avoid prosecution (child abuse) and Land Grabs (Henry VIII, Knights Templar, Selling of "Air Rights" over Churches to Developers to build taller Condos. (my city - present time)
Would God have wanted that to happen? Who is He working for? Can there be a "right way", and which way is That?
Chaos ensues based on sectarianism of "Who owns God".
Perhaps the "Banks" can decide this, because they are ultimately God. What says the FED?
Sorry for the hijack of this thread. Maybe I should start a new one.
