Immigration Police Making The Rounds in Phnom Penh, Asking Barangs For Big Money

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

I got rolled over by the actual Immigration police once. It was $70 for the 5 of them to fuck off. Or you could get a receipt for $120

Where do people who have this happen to them live? I've never once been approached by a copper or immigration official.

Well, this time it is him who chooses the time and the place. So, yes, that is the reason why he wins ... this time. I will certainly need his picture, simply because I may need to be able to find him back, so that he may get an unfortunate accident while I am on a visit in the Philippines.
AE86 wrote: Sat Jun 17, 2017 8:15 pmYou have to tread lightly with these kind of people unless you absolutely have the higher authority on your side. You can make small talk with them, give them a round about story about how you're going to go to immigration tomorrow, tell them you'll call them back, or maybe give them a case of beer and smile, letting them know that you know, but no hard feelings, but DO NOT whatever you do, try and expose them for what they are.
No, I am not kowtowing to them whatsoever. On the contrary, I am incredibly stubborn and recalcitrant. I do not care if I have to spend $10 000+ or more of my big stash of bitcoins on getting even. That is exactly how the rich Khmer people here also react, and that is why nobody dares to pull any kind of bullshit with them. All respect is ultimately based on the fear for reprisals, and in the end, everybody will have to prove that they are willing to risk their lives and die for what they believe in.

I've lived in Cambodia for 12+ years, and I have been threatening uniformed idiots all that time. If what you say, were true, then I should have been dead by now! ;-)

You can talk about willing to die for what you believe in, but are you willing to try and influence others to die for what you believe in? If you want to go head to head with police over a dispute, by my guest, but don't act like trying to expose crooked cops with posting their picture online and hoping for the Streisand Effect is going to go well for others here. Again, do that on your own dime.

I seriously doubt that. Maybe getting into arguments and refusing to cooperate, but actually threatening them? Not buying it.

Well, you would have to know how to do it. Everybody could do it, but they ordinarily won't.

There are very easy instruments available to threaten uniformed miscreants. It works pretty much everywhere in the world. For example, just elaborate extensively on the theme that "You are a pig and Allah will punish you." I know how to say a few of these things in Arabic, and I just keep repeating them. Nowadays, it scares everybody. That weapon is incredibly powerful. I have used it a few times on uniformed idiots here. They rather quickly gave up. That is why I have never paid fines to traffic police. Never. They give up. They have also seen the severed arms and legs flying around on their television screens. Fear, uncertainty, and doubt always ends up taking over. Uniforms only feel confident to harass you, if they believe that you are neatly individualized, and that no one else will care. As soon as you invoke dangerous religions, however, they are no longer sure of that anymore. Entire angry tribes could descend on them. It works in Paris too. There are complete no-go zones there, where no uniform would dare to venture. Just use the power that emanates from the Quran. It instills fear into the unbelievers. Seriously, either you fear the Almighty, or else you will fear those who do fear the Almighty.

I think you've fallen off your rocker mate. That's okay, I think we all have in a way, so I still stick to what I said earlier.

Pretending to speak Arabic to Khmer police officers invoking Allah somehow into things only makes you look like a crazy methhead barang, not a viable threat and therefore I still stand by my advice.

Don't threaten the police (legitimately), take their picture and try to expose them for their behaviour. Things will not end well for those that do.
