How do you get around town?

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. Dude, almost every Khmer has a least 2 phones, maybe 3, they place the phones above food and their family's needs. Get real.

I have to admit, whenever I see a Khmer using a motodop, I try and see how much they pay, but they're always on to me so it's impossible to tell. Not to mention I don't know how far they travelled anyway.

Not sure how that motto is doing it, but my bike dies the moment the water reaches the exhaust pipe! There is a trick of accelerating thus not letting the water in while in the flood but that one is difficult with the silly traffic.

Smartphones are cheap these days, way cheaper than a rudimentary Nokia or Motorola was 10 years ago. Even the cleaning ladies where I work have them. I see a lot of those Indian style Bajaj moto-rickshaws around now, and most of the time it's in areas where there are few foreigners and locals are using them. Those Bajaj's are a lot more structurally solid than any trailer-style tuk-tuk too. I've had enough of bullshit arguments with drivers so I generally only get guys I know. I've had that Passapp for a few months but haven't even tried it yet to be honest.
Actually there's no need to use programs like Passapp anymore. My experience is just mentioning you will use the app will bring prices down to a reasonable level.... and tuk tuk drivers will become kind of reasonable. The apps have changed the market big time, passapp has over 2000 tuktuks driving around PP now.

Well all I can say is you must mix with a better class of Khmer. In my village there is 1 smart phone and 3 nokias between 4 houses, and we are the one with the smartphone!

I caught a Ugo711 around 7.30 this morning. It offered my job (south Orussey to Phsar Chas) to about 7 or 8 drivers before one finally accepted it. Then after we set off the app said "no internet". When we arrived I could see his phone also said the same, but I'm not sure whether he turned off the data on his phone to try and fake it. He charged me 6000. Normally it's just under 5000 but I usually pay them 6000 anyway. When I got the email confirmation later it said 3000 which is the minimum fare.

I was surprised so many drivers declined the job but maybe they were still sleeping and couldn't be arsed waking up for $1.50 lol. So my tip is don't add your destination for early morning jobs if it's a short distance.

i use passapp all the time now whenever im in pp, it has success rate of 90%, 10% failure wld be driver cldnt find u, even if i set the location to within sight finding range of my actual location

other than that its been a good supply of drivers so far, also i tend to give them more than stated fees, making a point to tell them that i wld rather give them slightly more as it is still cheaper than tuk tuk ripoff prices

I've been riding for free (or heavily discounted) for several weeks now with Uber and Grab as they have run a succession of promotions. Now they have combined, I guess the deals will end. Since Chantthy's accident I am reluctant to use tuktuks of either type.

One stiffed me recently, just as he was getting near he called me and said "no, no" and I could see him driving away on the app. I had to cancel and rebook! lol
