How much would it cost?

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. So much cooler, plus the other benefits.
Space underneath, security, the view, safe from rhinoceros etc etc??

A timber/masonary combination would be nicest but may be too expensive. You can still do it well in masonry and a bit of steel, relatively cheaply.

A hot masonry block sitting on the ground is a recipe for a closed-off air conditioned life and high power bills.

In any case -
*** Try to get your trees in now, if you possibly can. Around the perimeter at least.
If you plant now, at the start of the wet - you get a year's head start. And you will really appreciate that when you do move in.
I personally like the traditional wooden house elevated. I think it could be built and then finished with western methods of ventilation and insulation and finishes.

"She' doesn't particularly like a wooden house, because she has never seen what I could do with it, and she sees it as the house of the common man.

We will plant some trees. Which do you recommend?

Mango trees are actually attractive and can grow 60 ft tall and offer a very large shade footprint. I once looked at a mango farm actually. Thought it would be lovely to live there.

Can send specific pictures if needed. Thanks all for your interest. Captions did not come through with the pictures but you will get the idea. First had to bring site above flood level. laid in irrigation for tree and gardens. after bricks are stacked electrician cuts channels for conduit. Roof tiles, doors and windows go on next week

PhuketRichard:

total size is 72m2 with porch or?
without porch - putting in all-around (all 4 sides) 12 foot porch

western or khmer kitchen, ( big frig, stove built in counter, wall/under counter cabinets, oven?)
Combo: stove built into counter. no oven Big fridg and freezer in garage (freezer to minimize supply runs to PPN.) Love Cambodia - hate most of the food...

1 bedroom, 1 toilet?
Yes, one bedroom (Intentional - so family and extended family cannot move in. One toilet and separate toilet and shower in garage

2 phase/or 3?
Do not know - electrician coordinated everything

where did you source all ur supplies? PP?
Sliding glass doors and accessories in PHN. Most construction material in Svay Rieng. (The heavy electric cable was $100 per roll on PPN but $80 in Svay Rieng) Happy to supply contact info when you are ready. Did a lot of recon and wife pretty much knows where to go for best deals on what - PPN and Svey Reing

How many outlets/wall, down low or?
Bunch about 4 per room - I laid it all out to my specifications. High so do not have to bend over and splurged on the number so do not have to run extension cords

style roof? tiles/metal?
Tiles - Malasian via Thailand - sourced in Svay Rieng

what is ur water supply? for Kep we had to go down 30 meters to get good water :-(
Well. 40 meters

$350 / seems the high side, I am budgeting $300/ all included

Thanks,
Personally am not looking forward to this upcoming build. one i did in Thailand was relatively hassle free and took only 6 months for a 225 Sqm2 house
Gf's sister hose is already 4 months under construction and barley 25% done... 125 Sqm2 house
2 bedrooms, 3 toilets, western kitchen all in quoted, ( 3 air cons, kitchen, bathrooms, good beds) at $40,000

I suggest a variety of fruit trees which grow tall, and coconuts. So you have shade and fruit.

Looking good. many variations needed to be made? Did you manage the onsite construction or have the builders project manage it all?

A lot of Cambodians build very tall brick houses.

If I was doing that, I would make it a bit taller, and put a floor in the middle, so it is two storey.

Arget. Wife does most to the supervising - her brother lives in the village and speaks good English - without that day today help project would be impossible. Constant adaptations!

Trees: Planted Mango and citrus trees a year ago. Placed the mangoes on the perimeter - away from the house Very messy!

Purchased trees from nursery on outskirts of PHN - Purchase, delivery and planting (crane) was cheaper than local in Svay Rieng.

Will put in shade trees soon. Family in village tells me we can buy "junk" trees for shade from villagers for about $25 (Buy and relocate)

"Best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago. second best time is today!"

Thank.s. I supervised my house in Perth as no company supervisor. Saved me Ks on all as the subcontractors were shiffty shits. Its a bit late when they forget to cut in the electricity and only make it shallow (quicker) and lay the cables without using conduit. (I was away for a week).
ALL in all your place looks great. Keep up the photos as you go please.
