Re: How to identify a hippy ?
It took me a few years to incorporate some hippie core values. Mostly then the battle cry was " sex, drugs and rock n' roll. We've come a long way baby.
As my old Cajun bait seller used to say, "I opes you luck.

Re: How to identify a hippy ?
Real hippies dont bother with South East Asia, it's too touristic and not difficult enough for that 'spiritual connection'. They choose harder to visit and more challenging places. Think India, Pakistan mountains, etc, think South America wilderness, etc....
The so called 'hippies' people describe in Cambodia, are just trendy new age travellers, who just grow dreds to get laid. Their hedonistic ways, are not necesarily grounded towards planet earth the way that Real Hippies, are.....

New Age travellers are persons who often espouse New Age and hippie beliefs, and travel between music festivals and fairs, in order to live in a community with others who hold similar beliefs. Their transport and homes consist of vans, lorries, buses, cars, and caravans converted into mobile homes. They also make use of improvised bender tents, tipis and yurts. "New Age" travelers largely originated in 1980s and early 1990s Britain. As of 2014, a small number continue to travel in that country, and cultural groupings with similar composition have also manifested themselves in other countries, such as New Zealand.

Re: How to identify a hippy ?
I knew a lot of Hippies, New Age Travelers, Punks, Squatters, Brew Crew, Crusties and sound systems in my time. Some of my old friends still do all that festival stuff, many have done pretty well. A whole lot are dead by now too!
I was part of that thing too, but a lot of it just ended up seeming stupid after a while.

Of course the really clever hippies knew how to blend in with regular people; they moved on with their dress sense; they moved on with their work; but they incorporated into their lifestyles those hippy core values.John Bingham wrote: ↑Mon Aug 07, 2017 11:21 pmI was part of that thing too, but a lot of it just ended up seeming stupid after a while.
Now they are doing preety well for themselves.....
