How to deal when you're down?

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

How to deal when you're down?

Post by prahkeitouj »

I know that everyone has their difficult time, but I see you guys still be strong and hopeful. I'm not a sad person, but sometims I'm hopeless because I still can't over come a nightmare. I just want to drink but I don't want to be drunk. I don't know how to stop me from feeling hopeless often?

Do something that makes you feel happy...think of happy times you've had in the past...surround yourself with friends and family that make you feel good...do something to take your mind off of whatever it is that is making you feel sad (exercise is a great way to clear your mind)...go to the Wat and speak to the monks if that works for you...and smile :D

But whatever you do, don't resort to drinking or drugs because they will only drag you down further.

Yes, I do all those things, but temporary.
I know drinking and drug are not good. That is why I don't do it.

A random drink helps. A massage helps too. Sleep.

Are you having problem with rat-race? If so i do understand how you are feeling now, because i have been dealing with rat-race for along time and now i think i won it. I appreciated what i have and i live my life the way i want. If you don't like drinking, please don't do it and also smoking. They can't help you at all.

LS: Do something good for someone else. When you help someone else, you will feel better about how you are feeling.
And tell yourself that your bad feelings will go away after some time. Say to yourself that tomorrow will be better.
PSD is right about exercise - or just go for a walk and talk to people you meet.
Everything will be ok. Ok now LS ?

Hang around with people, don't be alone. Watch some funny movies. Get a dog/cat. Don't watch Khmer karaoke videos, they are like poison, most of them.
Jesus loves you...Mexico is great, right? ;)

It depends whats bothering you. Take a ride out to the countryside. Take a long walk or a nap under a tree. Fresh air and getting away from other people usually help me. Go to a Wat. Do something that gives you a different perspect and lets your mind wander.

99% of the time your friends and family can't help. They can only support you in your decisions and keep you company so you don't get too strange.

Well, at least that's my experience.

Very helpful, you all!!! Thank you so much that you share all good advice and experience. Sometimes I'm a bit emotional when I stay up late. Yes, I feel relaxed after I woke up. Thank you so much! :)))

I wouldn't recommend sex, drugs or insanity, for everyone, but they've always worked for me.
