In order for the population of the world to live like middle class Americans, we would need something in the order of 2 planets worth of resources.
Could you lend me the money to buy another planet? I spent all mine on doughnuts.

It's hot and getting hotter in South East Asia.

Extreme temperatures described as ‘worst April heatwave in Asian history’ as records tested in India, China, Thailand and Laos

Unusually hot temperatures have also been reported in south-east Asia, including in Luang Prabang, Laos, which recorded 42.7C this week, the highest reliable temperature in its history, according to Herrera.
In Thailand, the meteorological department said temperatures reached 44.6C in Tak province on Sunday – matching the previous record reached in Mae Hong Son on 28 April 2016. It is predicted that temperatures could reach 45C this week.

Smoke and Heat: Breaking Records in Southeast Asia
The long-range forecasts paint a bleak, hot outlook, with suffocating heat and smoky air across Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, and Cambodia.
By Luke Hunt
April 24, 2023

A record heatwave combined with intense smoke from burning off cropland has created the worst living conditions in memory across mainland Southeast Asia, amid long-range weather forecasts that this year’s dry season will last longer than usual, to be followed by less rain than usual.

Temperatures are routinely exceeding 40 degrees Celsius in Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, and Cambodia, stoking fears that the heavy rains last year – which prompted the Mekong River Commission to declare a four-year drought over – were just a short respite.

Chiang Mai, hemmed in by mountains, has fared worse, with annual burning in northern Thailand and nearby Myanmar choking off the city, forcing thousands to flee. It is now ranked as the most polluted city on the planet, ahead of Lahore, Tehran, and Beijing.

On Friday, Bangkok warned people not to go outside as the mercury climbed to 45 degrees C and the national weather service said the heat index, which is what the temperature feels like when it is combined with humidity levels, hit a record 54 degrees C.

Somkhwan Tanchan, director of the Thai Meteorological Observations Division, said that maximum temperatures had averaged around 40 degrees C since the beginning of April – and that the severity of “an upcoming drought” is more concerning than the big dries of 2019 and 2020.

Blackouts and water shortages are common as electricity grids buckle under intense use of air conditioners and refrigeration while heavy demand for water has resulted in chronic shortages in neighboring Cambodia, which will stage the Southeast Asian Games from May 5-17.

How the athletes will fare is a major concern for organizers, given that weather historian Maximiliano Herrera described the current climatic conditions as the “worst April heat wave in Asian history.”

The burning season, when farmers slash and burn large tracts of land before planting crops across mainland Southeast Asia, typically lasts for about two months and ends with the wet season.

However, in Cambodia, the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology has issued its second long-term weather forecast for 2023 – and it says hot weather will continue until mid-May, later than expected, and with less rain anticipated than in 2022

Vietnam and Laos record hottest temperatures ever as heat wave grips Southeast Asia
By Tara Subramaniam, CNN
Published 3:24 AM EDT, Mon May 8, 2023

Temperature records tumbled across Southeast Asia over the weekend as the region swelters under a weekslong heat wave that has brought misery to millions.

All-time highs were recorded in Vietnam, Laos and Thailand’s capital, where the heat has been compounded by an intense smoggy season that has caused pollution levels to spike.

Scientists have long warned that heat waves are set to get worse as the impacts of the human-caused climate crisis accelerate.

In Vietnam, temperatures reached 44.2 degrees Celsius (around 111.6 Fahrenheit) on Saturday in the northern district of Tuong Duong – the highest temperature ever recorded in the country, according to weather historian Maximiliano Herrera.

In neighboring Laos, the city of Luang Prabang hit 43.5 degrees Celsius (110.3 Fahrenheit) on Saturday, breaking the national record of 42.7 degrees Celsius (108.9 Fahrenheit) that was only set last month, Herrera said.

The Laotian capital Vientiane also broke its all-time record this weekend with a temperature of 42.5 degrees Celsius (108.5 Fahrenheit).

Meanwhile in Thailand, Saturday saw the hottest ever temperature recorded in Bangkok – 41 degrees Celsius (105.8 Fahrenheit).

There should be filters on the internal system. Ian there a flap or something to open? Have a poke around. In one country I lived in I managed to order replacement filters. No idea how it works there.
No harm in getting it serviced sooner rather than later if you have the dosh.
Keeping the external unit clean and well functioning is outside of my scope of experience.
