There’s extremely grave sexual violence here, not that anything can justify it, but can it be PTSD amongst a majority from the KR period? Perhaps in combination with meth? Or is only the meth to blame? i’ve never seen it on a frequent and brutal scale like this.

I think it has nothing to do with Meth or KR; that is just a convenient excuse. The same shit happens in other countries.

I’ve never seen it on this large scale, and unfortunately so frequent, as here...
And i think i’m quite well informed about this particular subject.

I doubt it can be attributed to the KR period as most perpetrators seem too young to have been around during that period.Borum-Ex frm TOForum wrote:I’ve never seen it on this large scale, and unfortunately so frequent, as here...

Meth is one culprit I would guess but more likely it is down to education. How many khmer parents sit down and teach their kids right from wrong and about consequences? You see little shits running around all the time with no discipline whatsoever.
What could also be a factor is the culture of seeing the rich and powerful get away with crime all the time. They see this and think they can do the same.
What I find more shocking than the sexual assault (not saying the sexual assault itself is not shocking enough) is the fact most seem to escalate this to murder as a means of trying to escape. They kill their victim so they cannot tell what happened.

Reasonable explanaition, i quite agree. But my better half is 34, and when i hear her stories from her childhood, makes me think that some things are related...

The same shit happens in every country, yes, but not always to this scale, I think is the OP's point. There are varying degrees of sexual violence in different societies - that's a fact. My suspicion is that it is a criminal phenomenon stemming from many different points of Cambodian history, not just the wars. Once a social movement gathers momentum, it is often difficult to break down quickly without harsh measures. Clearly harsh measures have not been put in place. But there are surely many other factors involved (judicial competency?), and the war-fraught past is one of them too.
Shirking off the sexual violence here, and saying oh it's just like other countries seems a bit... I dunno... Not great.

Not my intention at all; nowhere did I deny that horrific crimes exist in this country. I am just questioning the statement that the KR are somewhat responsible. South Africa has by far the highest number of rapes anywhere in the world; and this even though most rapes go unreported (there are claims that there are as many as 500,000 rapes a year).siliconlife wrote: ↑Wed May 30, 2018 10:02 amShirking off the sexual violence here, and saying oh it's just like other countries seems a bit... I did write this earlier but seems it didn't post. I agree with the OP and have been thinking the same myself. There seems to be an increasing and regular amount of murders/rapes/extreme violence especially against/between younger people and children and I'm just going off what CEO pick up and translate. It seems to be running at 3 murders a week. I dont know how that compares with other similar sized countries
