Re: I Hope You've Had Your Japanese Encephalitis Vaccinatio
I stand corrected, but is it really something to worry about? Honest question, as I'm the type who never goes to see a doctor for anything.Francis wrote:It's definitely around in SR city - no need to be in the jungle.Bitte_Kein_Lexus wrote:I had it a few years ago as part of my job (circa 2008-2009). Got a skin sample later on at Pasteur (they prick you and check the size of the wound 3 days later or something). To be honest, why would you guys be worried about that?! I think you'd need to be sleeping in a pretty remote area (jungle) to get it.

As an adult probably not.....probably. See, I'm here for about 12 years and I have had my fair share of health related problems. I always -just like you- treated myself ....successfully. I'm quite afraid of Cambodian doctors. So I think that you'll be fine BUT if you get it, then you are literally fucked (that virus is nasty). It's always a question of evaluating risks.

Doch der Haifisch lebt im Wasser
So die Tränen sieht man nicht
In der Tiefe ist es einsam
Und so manche Träne fliesst
Und so kommt es dass das Wasser
In den Meeren salzig ist
Und die laufen vom Gesicht
Doch der Haifisch lebt im Wasser
So die Tränen sieht man nicht
In der Tiefe ist es einsam
Und so manche Träne fliesst

I guess any easy straw poll is to ask - does anyone know another expat that has had it?
I don't.
I don't.

My landlord's child got it. He's quite sick at the moment.StroppyChops wrote:I guess any easy straw poll is to ask - does anyone know another expat that has had it?

Hard to tell. Landlord brings him to a local clinic....spent already more than a thousand US and the boy looks to my opinion not too good. But it's difficult to treat such a virus. All you can do is to support the body and then you wait (and see).StroppyChops wrote: Bugger - that's harsh. Outlook?

Thanks. Pattaya International then. Been there several times. In Pattaya it was the hospital down by soi 4 or 5 and on second road. I was staying at the Sabai Lodge which is close.
