Hooray! More American fast food coming to Cambodia!

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

I grow up on Wimpy burgers in Chicago back in the early 70's. I guess they are long gone since I don't remember the last time I saw one.

That's down to personal tastes. If I had to eat local food all the time I'd move country or end up starving to death because I lose my appetite for that stuff quickly.
Amen to that.

It's called "progress" :? Bringing the great western culture of junkfood to the poor deprived Cambodians so they can get fat and unhealthy like the rest of the world. Eating shit is a basic human right.

not sure ( yet) about Cambodia, but here Obesity amongst primary school age kids is epidemic. ( is that the right word to use?)
never seen kids so overweight in primary school.
Blame it all on poor eating habits ( 7/11 ) little, if any exercise and the fucking smart phone

Well, firstly, fast food is KRAP, with a capital K. It should really be called "fake food" as it contains virtually zero nutrients but loads of preservatives. It's made in factories by transnational corporations that don't give a rat's arse about anything other than profits.

Secondly, does taste good? As they say, there's no accounting for taste. What people like to eat seems especially subjective. The appeal of "fast food" though is primarily in the setting and packaging. It's convenient and served all wrapped up in nice little sanitary tissues and boxes in a clean, colourful and air-conditioned place. Eating there is a fun, social event. You might meet some hot birds whilst standing in the queue, for instance or you can take your kids there for a birthday party. Also, it's affordable but still allows locals to demonstrate their middle-class status via conspicuous consumption. Meanwhile, you're still eating KRAP.

As many have mentioned, it's better to eat local food (even though some of that is KRAP, too, especially in Cambodia). When you eat some western food, go to a locally-owned place rather than give money to some corporate behemoth.

Utter garbage. You can eat fast food as part of a balanced diet (it's challenging but not impossible). Anything which is dripping with fats, sugars and proteins is hardly nutritionally inadequate. It also tastes good because it's dripping with fats, proteins and sugars which our bodies are programmed to seek out and love (thanks to a million odd year history when these things were hard to come by on a daily basis).

As for social event? I think I'd rather amputate my nuts than have party in McD's but each to their own...
