hipsters

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

hipsters

Post by tightenupvolume1 »

A Paris hospital’s decision to reject an Egyptian trainee doctor because of his beard has been backed by a court, which agreed that patients might have seen it as a religious symbol.

Public hospitals, like other state institutions, must remain secular under France law, and staff are banned from wearing obvious religious symbols such as headscarves.

Nawel Gafsia, a lawyer acting for the doctor, named only as Mohamed A., argued unsuccessfully that the 2-inch beard did not necessarily indicate his religious practices. “My client could have been a hipster,” Ms Gafsia said.

I dunno, I think very religious people should duke it out in hospitals via the "holier-than-thou" sort of thing. Who can heal the most, best.

Disturbing the distaste of Parisians and change in times this is. [ <-- Intentional use of Yoda Grammar. Yes, I am a super geek, too. ]

Then again, they ARE Parisian, so their distaste is almost a personality flaw / character trait in them now, haha.

Not if there's a fire, not even if you hear the sound of a thud from my home and one week later there's a smell coming from there that can only be a decaying human body and you have to hold a hanky to your face because the stench is so thick that you think you're going to faint.

Even then, don't come knocking...Not for ANY reason.

However he failed to mention that the beard was an attempt to reduce Hospital-acquired infections (HAIs) contracted from health care workers, and should therefor be allowed. :D

Or even a political statement. you notice how many western millenials have muslim style beards? i doubt they are all converts. Its a way of sticking 2 fingers up at the government. i wonder if they would have banned an orthodox jew or sikh with a beard? Surely any beard is a health issue in surgery.
