Hipster can collectors

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Hipster can collectors

Post by lordofmisrule »

Today I saw a hipster looking westerner collecting cans in bkk1 in two carrier bags. What is the deal with that, if you end up on the street like the German guy around 172/51 area ok, but if you are just collecting the cans the poor should be getting money for then really I dont get that, what does someone like this give to Cambodia during thier visit? What do you get for that anyway? I heard 100 riel for two cans but that is really just hearsay. If you have to pick cans to buy beer then why are you travelling?
Hipster guy: if you are on here, on someones free wifi, I have a jar if mouy roy notes you can have, no wonder bars are suffering!

If you enjoy noise pollution and obnoxious driving practices, Phnom Penh is the place for you!

If you mean the old short drunk with grey straggly hair german guy, he lives in a guesthouse, not on the street. Bumming drinks and cigarettes and collecting plastic is his chosen career :stir:

He used to live on the street last year, on 172 for a while but he was moved on, if he is in a guesthouse then that is great, he is moving on and up.

The German guy is Manfred, been discussed here or over the other site previously. He's okay, a lot worse than him about and, he doesn't bum beer or cigarettes, always pays his way, usually with a bundle of riel in smaller notes. I heard him tell someone his age one night 55.
