High interest paid on deposits in banks in Cambodia

I stopped int Maybank today. They are paying 4.25% for a 1 year fixed deposit US dollars [dollars in. dollars out - no conversion to reil. You are lucky to get 1% or 1.25% in the US. You need at least a 6 month visa to open an account.

Anyone know why this is so?

AMK offer 12%, Amret 10%, Prasac 9.75%....

And Hattha Kaksekar offer 9.5% and they just got "awarded "The Golden Europe Award for Quality & Commercial Prestige" in Geneva, Switzerland, October 27, 2014 by Otherways Management & Consulting Association-France, for corporate achievement on Innovation, Quality and Excellence."

I used Prasac for some savings after ACLEDA rates went down. Good returns.

I think that would be for Riel not USA $

Yep, 36 mths. I opened a couple just over 12 mths ago when exchange rate was $1:4180 now it's 4080 so will/would make another 0.5%/1%? on the currency exchange
Honestly, don't be scared of KHR: in my 12 years here it's always been very stable at 4000: $1 (down to 3900 lowest in my memory , and other way was 4250... but normally around 4100)
80% of my savings are in riel and split between 5 MFIs mentioned above.
Best rate l ever enjoyed was 14% on a 3 year at Credit Mutual.
But 12% is pretty good. Average of 11% l suppose.

I'm still curious about why the dollar interest rate from a big multi-national bank like Maybank is about 4 times the rate avail in US. Any info?
