High interest paid on deposits in banks in Cambodia

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. Western Union exchange rates are notoriously bad. And they screw you a second time with them after tier charge for transmitting funds. If you have trhe cash, use the money changers on St 136 near Psar Themi. Sovann is good one.

True, but so far they're working out cheaper than the banks for international transfers.

Really?! How much do you transfer at a time? I can't imagine them having good rates on any larger sums given that they charge an arm and a leg for relatively small amounts.

Since yr apparently active and have friends in OZ, the best ay is to hve soene bring over a large amount of OZ cash for you, chnge it to US at a money changer.

Alternatively, change the money to US dollars in OZ and wire it to yr Cambodia bank account.

Yes, definitely, or have them buy USD from the postal service in Oz and bring it to you.

Is not just the WU fees, it's also the shaved exchange rate they impose on transfers.

$35 when using a credit card, plus a marginally shaved exchange rate (less than half a percent from memory) - no hit from the home bank when your credit card is in positive territory.

WU was 35 USD last time i asked about a transfer 2 weeks ago. They moderately wanted to fuck me over with an exchange rate that took 5% more out of 2K = 100 USD. I was, for once, smart enough and asked all the stupid questions and assumed nothing. Plus I had checked all current exchange rates. So I had a rough figure in my mind what the result should be.

Bank transfer was USD 35 USD to USD account.

If the WU to bank difference was only half a percent it could be that there is something wrong with what your bank is doing.
