Hey English teacher out there
Hey English teacher out there
i don't know if you guy have noticed this. Many Cambodians don't pronounce the word with the ending consonant especially the one ends with S, ES and ED because khmer doesn't have intonation like English. I wonder how can you help your student with their pronunciation.
Last night i was talking with a few CEO members and i felt like they found it hard to understand me. I needed to repeat the word again and again or maybe it was too noisy, so they can't hear me clearly .

Yeah, sometimes you can guess the word from the context, but when a Khmer says to you: "He is fren" - you have to work out if the guy is a friend, French or both

He could also be called Frank !
Re: Hey English teacher out there
I think there are so many words in English that you guys could hear the same when we pronounce them.
Example
1. See, She, Sea
2. Help, Have
3. six, sex, sick
I bet many Cambodians would laugh so badly if you say this word in front of them especially when we ( local) say it.
Turmoil

Re: Hey English teacher out there
When I was teaching, a student asked me to say the following words,
thin, thing, think
After I said them, she said, "Oh, so they're all the same".
I said the words again adding stress to the final consonants, but alas, they were still all the same.

Heh, I say "cow" and "baby" in khmer the same apparently. For awhile I said "to work" like I did "to need" (twerka/troukar). Stuff that seems really clear when you're used to the sounds appears as the same when you're not. I can definitely see getting tripped up on thin/thing/think.

Re: Hey English teacher out there
Asian-English is cute, im used to it and can decipher it pretty easy, tbh because of my northern english accent i have to talk with a broken english cambodian accent when im speaking english to a khmer haha although my khmer has improved loads over the past 5 months, its when khmer try typing khmer in english that becomes the problem, everything seems to look abbreviated because they just write how they think it sounds because theres no true romany english for cambodian i dont think, say like if a friend uploads a photo on fb the amount of different spellings is funny...Sa-art, Saart, Sart, Saat, Art nas haha
