Help Needed: Bail Money for Lance Whitmore in Thai Prison

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. Help Needed: Bail Money for Lance Whitmore in Thai Prison

Post by Robin »

Thank-you for letting me write this here. I am writing to ask your help. If you have any idea what it's like in the Thai Prisons. Please have it in your heart to help my friend. Please share, or donate.

My friend is in Klong Prem Prison in Bangkok and his parents are trying to raise money for his bail. He hasn't had trial yet. I do not know all the details, I do know that Klong Prem Prison is generally for drugs, but that is me speculating. My friend is a good non-violent person who doesn't deserve to spend anytime in such a prison. (Not many people do, and particularly not my friend).

If you could find it in your heart to donate,it'd be GREATLY appreciated. They have already raised 1/3 through friends (thus not visible on the crowdfunder), but still need the other 2/3. There are 7 weeks left.

If you can't donate, please Share. Thank-you,

Sorry to hear about your friend! Do you think he was selling drugs or what?

Feel for ya but
The total for bail is 3 million baht
if the bail is that much he was not just in the wrong place at the wrong time,

Pian ( ex mayor of Patong) ran the Mafia in Patong for years an accumulated millions of $$
his bail was 120,000 baht
Another friend of mine in jail here in Phuket ( going on 10 months now)is charged with embezzlement of 50 million baht and his bail was only 2 mil

Thai Jail l is not for the faint of heart,
My advice rather than post bail get a good Lawyer

If the money is really for "bail," won't they get that money back when her son shows up for court?

u have file for it an it can take more than 18 months ( average time) after your final court appearance which could be years

Court system here is weird, you go one day to court, and rather unlike in the states where u go to court everyday till the verdict, Thailand the court could take months an months as its not continuous

With bail price that high the alleged crime must be pretty serious. Also I saw a show on Thai prisons once and they said a common problem was dodgy Thai lawyers getting the bail receipts in their name so when it came to be refunded it would be refunded to them only.

With the new junta, "wrong place, wrong time" is a serious offence in Thailand now.

Thanx for the link Robin. I've transferred $30 to the account mentioned on FB. Hope it helps and that your friend will get out of there soon.
Und der Haifisch der hat Tränen
Und die laufen vom Gesicht
Doch der Haifisch lebt im Wasser
So die Tränen sieht man nicht

In der Tiefe ist es einsam
Und so manche Träne fliesst
Und so kommt es dass das Wasser
In den Meeren salzig ist

Prisons are full of innocent people. Remember that.
