War drums, to be precise. Being beaten by a China that has said recently, in a speech by Xi Jinping who stated his goal was to “wipe out humiliation of the Chinese nation for centuries”

And then there is Rear Admiral Lou Yuan who has said, in his speech, there were ‘five cornerstones of the United States’ open to exploitation: their military, their money, their talent, their voting system — and their fear of adversaries.”
Who has said sinking 2 aircraft carriers would be needed to win the battle for the South China Sea.
What is interesting, besides the ship sinking business, is the fact he seems to be admitting they steal intellectual property, interfere in elections and the domination of the US$ as a reserve currency.

Now... all we need is for a “peace in our time” type event and well, should we bury our heads in the sand and pretend a war could never happen or do you have an exit plan?
Personally, we have a short term and a long term strategy. Short term is a weeks holiday in Bangkok while we assess the situation. Long term we will be moving to the UK before the shit hits the fan, so to speak.

Oh and if the worst comes to the worst, when will you be leaving? Before or after they start rounding up foreigners?

I started looking at that speech and then realised it was just a load of twaddle that went on and on and on and on and on and on... I'm always suspicious of long winded answers or rambling..

Look, let's face it, the west (and US in particular) haven't been on the front foot with the Chinese stealing intellectual property and also, not giving fair western access to their own markets. They don't observe international patents. Obama and other countries were pussies in this regard imo.

Maybe easy to say with hindsight but we let them get away with murder economically whilst the west was basking in the low inflationary comfort of getting cheap chinese imports and exporting raw materials to them.

There is no doubt their global influence both military and political is insidious. With a president of life, they are not constrained by parliamentary terms like the west and they think in terms of decades or more...not the next election like the west does.

I think the chinese are just waiting it out until Trump is no longer president and then they will resume their expansion. OTOH I think the South China seas are a powder keg and that could easily blow up..

Interesting take on things.

Human history shows that military conflict is most likely inevitable, eventually. So having some contingency plans is prudent, if just for some peace of mind.

Let's be honest, there is no way the USA could win a conventional war in Asia. I don't think they could even do it with Russia's help. The only way a war against Them could be won would be for the other 2 big powers to come together, shake the big stick at them, and be prepared to use it.Russia does not want them taking over Asia because they know the rest of the world would be next; including them. I really don't think China is really prepared for a nuclear holocaust. I think they are going to bide their time and take over most of Asia economically first, which they seem to be succeeding at quite well right now. The big loans are like an angler fish waiting to suck up their prey/
