Health checkpoint at Siem Reap/Kampong Thom
Health checkpoint at Siem Reap/Kampong Thom
For anyone considering travel via Route 6 to/from Siem Reap. Today at the Kampong Thom border there was a health checkpoint. I wasn't planning on travelling until tomorrow so I can't speak firsthand.
The driver I usually use called tonight saying he won't be driving to Siem Reap tomorrow - from what he said today was chaotic and the police has told him that tomorrow he will not be allowed through. I've also gotten calls from Kampong Cham that supposedly there is a strong possibility of a 2 week quarantine/shutdown coming next week should I decide to make the trip.
Obviously what I'm being told is 2nd hand but I know the driver well and he doesn't turn down money for any reason. At the very least looks like there will be some delays and potentially restrictions coming for certain travel.

I came from Siem Reap today and saw no checkpoint at Kampong Thom. I will return tomorrow and anticipate no problems. Careful of rumours.

Cambodia News: From 9 March 2021, Mr. Tea Seiha, Governor and Chairman of the Siem Reap Provincial Administrative Unity Command has decided to conduct health monitoring measures for Covid-19, at the border between Chi Kreng District, Siem Reap Province and Stuong district, Kampong Thom province.
Trucks and people can still pass through the provincial border normally after a health check.
The checkpoint is also aimed at gathering traveller data through the use of QR Code “Stop COVID-19”.

I can only say again there was no checkpoint today. Khmer Times can not be relied on as a source of truth.
Its very possible the picture was staged for the minister until he left. There was no checkpoint at 11 am.

The other half mentioned something similar regarding heading up to Krakor/Pursat- that the local authorities may be carrying out testing. The information relayed to us via her brother in law, (who admittedly isn't the most reliable source of gossip, and may indulge in the hookie wine or self-electrocution a bit too much)
Re: Health checkpoint at Siem Reap/Kampong Thom
Just came to Siem reap from Phnom Penh. There is now a checkpoint just west of Steung for Siem Reap bound traffic only. You are required to go down from your vehicle and wear a mask at all times even though its outdoors. Foreigners and Khmer need to provide a passport or ID card and answer questions like: Where have you come from? Where are you going? Where do you live? and also have to give a telephone number. You are also required to load an app on your phone so the government can track your movements. The process takes about 20 minutes then you pass through. There is no backlog of traffic.
Truck drivers are exempt and just drive straight through which makes the whole exercise absurd.

UPDATE: This seems related - there was an announcement by officials on 9 March 2021 that a woman tested positive for Covid-19 in Siem Reap, after traveling through Phnom Penh from Sihanoukville.

Are these stupid people or deliberately spreading the virus.
