Pi**heads Pockets

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. Pi**heads Pockets

Post by Doc67 »

Has anyone else noticed the chaos occurring in your pockets after visiting a few bars on a night out?

I went out with a $50* note.

In a dark bar, downwind of a few beers, it's hard enough trying to even recognise what note is what before trying to convert KHR to USD or is it USD to KHR, and then figure out what mix to use. It's like one of those annoying lateral thinking tests.

It's not as easy as it was. The two types, with different colours, of 10,000's really don't help. And this is without any 20,000 creeping into the mix.

I'm seriously thinking of refusing all $1's and $5's. Either charge and give change in $'s or KHR. No mix n match. They are going soon so might as well get get used to it now. Not sure how that will pan out though. Maybe they'll just keep the change.

I think it's fair to say that whoever gave you change managed to make a personal profit of around $1.32 USD, lol. I know someone who would have lost their shit. :x

I know how you feel next time you change money eg $100 get it in 20,000 lots and take them with ya , I find it easier as your handing out $5 a time but in Riel
I did notice with your change from last night I could have a few nights out hahaha, you obviously went straight home
I'm standing up, so I must be straight.

I did, it was a quite night.

And all this is without the 200 Riel on every dollar. I know they give you back 4000 as a $, but will they take 4000 Riel for a $1 bill for one beer (or two for you!!). Or will some spiteful-old-hag bar owner demand an extra 200 Riel?

What about $5? Will they accept 20,000 Riel or will they demand 21,000?

It's more than likely it would be that of a one way transaction, being you will have your paying monies converted on the riel you pay too the exchange of the (none existent wanted dollar $1 -5). But they, the establishment won't or may except, without giving you back what they take has the exchange rate. But all is excepted if you are a good spender. The spiteful-old-hag bar owner in this case failed, she was unable to relieve you of all that $50 note, then again I am surprised she took the $50 note in the first place.
Always "hope" but never "expect".
