I had to serve coffee and sweet and all that takes forever to Douglas Hurd and all sorts of other ministers and viscounts and whatever. To be honest I never gave much thought to who any of them where anyway, I was waiting for the shift to end so I could get down to Brixton and have some fun. They were actually all pleasant enough as far as dealing with as customers goes, but I never worked as a waiter again, I just thought it sucked.
Most really important people that I have met were quite pleasant, they have nothing to prove. It is the wannabes and hanger-ons that are a pain in the butt.

Have You Met Anyone Famous

Post by rozzieoz »

When I was working as a journalist in QLD I interviewed some really interesting people including a lot of comedians, sports personalities etc.
One of my favourites was Mark Bouris, the Australian Apprentice guy. He was so nice to me - gave me way more time than we booked and then posed for a photo with me afterwards. Very unprofessional (I know, I know) but the man is a dish!

But I think the couple who made the biggest impact on me are people who shouldn’t be famous, they should just be a normal family but circumstances prevented that from happening and they turned lemons into lemonade. Daniel Morcombe’s parents - they are absolutely amazing and inspired me a lot.

I’ve written CVs for some incredible people over the past few years - people who weren’t famous themselves but worked for famous people - such as the pilot who flew Princess Di around Angola on her landmine tour, staff of Richard Branson, the personal assistant to Harry Oppenheimer, several of Nelson Mandela’s guards including one who was with him right up to his walk to freedom and also a vet who was the zookeeper for one the Saudi royal family members’ Bird of Prey collection.
There have been so many but those are the some of the stand-outs.

Some people have fascinating jobs!
(Oops went off-topic a bit sorry).

I don't fawn over many celebrities but...

You mean Snake fucking Plissken - Kurt Russell? Awesome!

Met a lot of musicians over the years, some such aholes to never listen to their music ever again ;-)

Some oldschool kung fu stars like Chen Kuan Tai, Gordon Liu, and Sonny Chiba, some of the nicest people I ever met.

Lot of obscure or washed up people at various cons over the years, Mary-Ann from Gilligan's Island was at the tiki fest last year, Loyd Kaufman of the Troma movies(Toxic Avenger) was a really cool dude I met a couple times.

Tell us more about Charles Sobhraj, was this in the 70s or when he returned there in the early 2000s?

Well I have no claims to fame here, my closest were celebrity walk-bys:

I chased then NZ prime minister Rob Muldoon around a warehouse to get his photo during an election campaign (his last one, as it turned out);
I saw Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip at a walkabout event in Napier; and
I walked past Guy Sebastian in Sydney once (I kept walking)

Wait, I can probably claim the lamest "celebrity" meeting. On Aussie TV they often trot out Centrelink spokeman Hank Jongen on the news. I had dinner with him and his partner with a mutual friend of ours once.

I defy anyone to come up with a lamer celebrity encounter than me.
