Have you ever been called "Ah" in Khmer?
Re: Have you ever been called Ah?
The two phrases you wrote here are really offensive. I am surprise that your wife loves it.benone wrote:My partner calls me 'ah k'jaa' or 'ah ta svet' when I am messing about, so I usually respond with 'taa mij me k'dit' or 'me a yas' not sure what the last one means, but the missus sure loves it

Or Jow-mu-siat (correct me on the pronounciation Samouth) I believe it means useless person.
Actually qinjingyou got it really right. Om and Pu are the same in English means uncle. However in our language, you call someone om when he or she is older than your parents and po when they are younger than your parent.qinjingyou wrote:Om , uncle who is older than your parents. I've been called that. Also pu, bong, nek, etc. I've been called other things but they weren't true and don't bear repeating.
Note: Om is neither uncle nor aunt. It is just a title you address someone who is older than your parent. In order to street with sex we have to add more words.
Om Srey: Older aunt.
Om Pros: Older uncle.
Po: Younger uncle
Meang: Younger aunt.
You are right. Jom Ma Siat means useless person. It is someone who can not do anything at all. You should learn about kicking the air.
I suggest you to check my other thread calls, Khmer Lessons Related Questions.

The first one means "bald" and the second is ឯង.[/quote]John Bingham wrote:Hmmm... I can't find it.prahkeitouj wrote:Samouth wrote: Ok, I'll try again:
I'm usually called "Ot tngao" or "Aiieng". I haven't been called "ah" since I was a kid.
Hey little salary. Do you have any ideas?
What you wrote doesn't really sond like Bald in our language.
I would write, Tro Ngoul .

Yes Mop or Map means fat. It makes sense that she calls him Ah Mop. It is really normal if woman calls each other Ah then name.AE86 wrote:My wife calls my little nephew "Ah Mop"

Re: Have you ever been called
Both are insulting words. They must thought that you are really fat.General Mackevili wrote:Haha, I don't think I've ever been called "Ah Mackevili" but I've definitely been called "Ah Mop."AE86 wrote:My wife calls my little nephew "Ah Mop"
Is that the same "Ah" meaning in both?

Re: Have you ever been called Ah?
according to my culture she is no lady is she is using the word Ah to address me. I am responding to what you posted . May be you should of made it clear that if a woman calls you a motherfucker to thank her for it. Dont talk crap. I have never heard my Mother or wife use the word motherfucker in any language .Samouth wrote:You know what according to our culture, when the woman calls man Ah it is not really serious. It has something to deal with our history back in the first century. At that time, our king was female. She was the first king of Cambodia.Ed Hammer wrote:I would call her 'ME' back. General Mackevili: I just don't want you littering our forum with your drivel.
Re: Have you ever been called Ah?
Hahaha, i wouldn't thank to her for this. i would just walk away. The main reason that i made this thread is to just help people to understand. I wouldn't suggest them to use them.Ed Hammer wrote:according to my culture she is no lady is she is using the word Ah to address me. I am responding to what you posted . Re: Have you ever been called
Most people just say "Ah, fuck." when they see me.
Re: Have you ever been called Ah?
You have to be able to have a laugh and a joke with the person you are gonna spend most of your time with, otherwise whats the point. Couldn't spend my life with someone who is going to take it all too seriously. Obviously i don't use these terms of endearment in public, that would just be wrongSamouth wrote:The two phrases you wrote here are really offensive.
