Happy Rats

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. Happy Rats

Post by cambo swa »

Now 3 days without trash pickup in many neighborhoods. Piles of garbage are soon blocking the roads and the smell is getting unbearable. I am assuming another CINTRI and government pissing match? The rats and flies are happy. Anyone know why?

CINTRI workers were on strike for a pay rise, but (I think) it's supposed to be sorted. Probably take a while for them to catch up.

That said, a trash pickup every three days sounds good from here in Sihanoukville. And apart from the household rubbish which is usually collected whenever, we also have mountains of trash dumped on the roadsides, which will probably never get picked up because it hasn't been paid for. Beautiful Sihanoukville.
(And yes, very happy rats.)

I didn't notice any difference in my area. The main places that get clogged up with garbage are the areas where residents just chuck all their crap in a pile at the end of a lane or where vendors throw it somewhere adjacent to the market. These people are irresponsible slobs and deserve to swim in shit, unfortunately it also affects other people nearby.

A bit much to call people irresponsible slobs when all they are doing is putting the rubbish in a heap where there should be a big jumbo bin.
Now the Cintrie workers will spend half the day picking up the mess.

A lot of people live in areas inaccessible to the garbage trucks so they just throw it in a pile on the nearest main road.

I thought this thread was going to be about a restaurant selling barbequed rats stuffed with ganja.

There was a thread a while back about the popularity of 'organic' rats from the province.. :beer3:

No. As the photo shows, these are many areas where they normally put the trash out at the street edge and it is collected by CINTRI every day/night. Now nothing. On some streets (130, Phasr Kandal)) it is 5-6 meters out towards the street center almost blocking car access.
