Happy 4Th of July

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

I don't think it will happen this election. I haven't seen such big turkeys since Thanksgiving.

I think that is the point that many don't understand. Having those guns does not mean that the gun holders could win against government forces but that it would necessitate the slaughter you allude to, which the government would be loath to do. At least that's the theory.

You actually think the statement that government should be 'of, by and for the people' was meant as hyperbole?

As repulsive as it would be to shoot ones fellow countrymen self defence would be the only alternative in the hope that they would surrender.

I think the part of the idea of having all those guns is that the possiblity of that slaughter may deter the government from allowing such a situation ever to arrise, at least on any scale. Of course the government would 'win' the fight, but at what cost? And is that a cost the government would be willing to pay?

LTO, I understood your point. Show me a govt. that wants to lose a revolution. I can't envision government officers laying down their weapons. It would be a sad sad day, but one the fools brought on themselves.
