Many researchers believe that it is the legal status of marijuana, not the substances in it, that makes it a gateway. The situation is the classic scenario. When cannabis is outlawed, only outlaws will have cannabis. We are forced to buy cannabis from shady people that often deal with hard drugs as well. Because we can't get it anywhere else. The Add Jay wrote:Marijuana is a gateway drug and unfortunately leads to a large majority of people to start trying other drugs.
On the other hand, the same research indicating cannabis to be a gateway drug also indicates nicotine and alcohol to be gateway drugs. More specifically, the paper where this originates from (which also covers nicotine and alcohol) is Common liability to addiction and “gateway hypothesis”: Theoretical, empirical and evolutionary perspective. You can read the whole paper here https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3600369/
Quoting the study, "Even the connections of the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor genes, however, originally observed for nicotine dependence, have now been extended to cocaine and opiate dependence, sometimes with flip-flops of alleles specifically associated with the licit and illicit substances (Sherva et al., 2010)".
Does anybody seriously consider nicotine to be a gateway drug to cocaine and opiate use? No. Not even the opponents of cannabis that point at it as a gateway drug do this. So, I wonder, why the perverse fascination with calling wolf on cannabis alone? It would also be interesting to wonder how many gateway theorists have actually read the related studies.
This is nonsense. Farmers have been issued legal permits for grow cannabis for hundreds of years. Have you ever heard of industrial hemp? Industrial hemp is cannabis with a very low % of the active substances. Industrial hemp is legal to grow. Growing industrial hemp is regulated by taxes. Do you seriously mean growing hemp with a higher % of active substances would in any way make it harder to tax, specifically because of the higher % of active substances? The Add Jay wrote:Its illegal for many different reasons...1 big reason is its hard to tax since you can grow it.
And yes. Smoking very large amounts of industrial hemp will get you high. You can make hash from industrial hemp, but you will need larger quantities due to the low potency of course. Industrial hemp is a legally grown narcotic. You would think it would be the most popular gateway drug ever. It's not. People barely notice it, despite it being all over.
Cannabis has been a part of Khmer culture for thousands of years. It wasn't too many years ago that the local police department would round up the grandmothers at the markets, load up the vans with hundreds of kilos, take some pictures for the DEA, drive around to the other side of the market and load it right off again. It's a theatre for the masses. It's a theatre for people like you, lobby organizations and foreign countries threatening to cut off economical ties (as the DEA did on behalf of America, which is the only reason why cannabis is illegal to, note, smoke, in Cambodia). The Add Jay wrote:Do you think if Khmer people started smoking weed will make them stronger or weaker as a people? Anndddd Their is your answer.
They use cannabis as a spice. It's frequently used in soups, for feeding chicken, pigs and cattle, for making rope and so on.

Why are people so salty? Would a beer festival garner the same kind of animosity? You do realize alcohol is demonstrably in a completely different league when it comes to harm it causes?
Anyways, I had a nice 420 with the good folks from LoL Oceania server. Doritos and Mountain Dew were consumed by all, and everyone had a great time.

Marijuana is a gateway drug and unfortunately leads to a large majority of people to start trying other drugs.
Anyone on harder drugs would be on them anyway whether they smoked green or not!
i started smoking when i was 16 & have tried all of the hard drugs yet the only one i was addicted to was pot!
It became a habit via routine, I went to work stoned!
I had to get out of my environment to give it up/slow right down, I still enjoy a joint on the weekend but do not mind if it is not there.
Previous to this i had to have it every day & if i put the same effort into my business as i did to score a quart i would be a much more fortunate man, the key is moderation!
It can be quite pleasurable to relax after a smoke & can give you a different prospective on decisions that you have recently made, & so can be beneficial if not abused!
Hey what do Jeremy Clarkson & Amy Winehouse have in common ??????????
They were both on top gear!!!!!!!!! Hahahe-heee hahee hee burp

Whatever you need to do to justify your pot smoking. Think about half my friends growing up now do heavy drugs and they started with pot...I'll stick presented infront of me.BOFH wrote:Many researchers believe that it is the legal status of marijuana, not the substances in it, that makes it a gateway. Well I can see which directions the pendulum is swinging. Not swinging in a good directions. You think I'm celebrating people getting thrown in jail for a dime bag?? I've been arrested twice for possession and it cost me a fortune.
Make the people docile and stupid....thats all.

Re: Happy 420!!
I'm always curious about 'absurd reduction' arguments about gateway drugs. Debaters wind that gateway back and forward through life experience to suit their argument. Given the rationale that's sometimes displayed, breast milk is the real gateway drug...

Re: Happy 420!!
I stopped debating Add Jay a long time ago. BOFH bothers to write a great, well sourced, logical argument and it is still lost on him. He's honestly just not intelligent enough to engage in conversation. Why bother with logic, statistics, and research when he has fear, anecdotes, and confirmation bias?
