Guy has a seizure while sky diving, ends well
This guy gives a fine attempt at a Midnight Oil thrash dance before his divemaster swoops in to save the day - awesome clip, quick thinking action by the divemaster:

Trained this specific situation over and over again in the army myself and therefore can say: No fun at all. Perfect reaction from his partner tho, actual and true life saver. It might looks kinda easy in this vid - but being in a situation like that causes so fucking much adrenaline pumping through your body, it's simply unbelivable, even if it's only a simulated situation. Therefore: A big "well done" to this dude. Great work.

I can't imagine his 'auto-pop' would be guaranteed to work well (yeah, I know the 'chute is self-righting) if he's upside down like that, so top job by the dm.Schrodinger's Dog wrote:Trained this specific situation over and over again in the army myself and therefore can say: No fun at all. Can't really say something proved on this used non-military system but usually an automatic release won't work with the back down (due to air pressure coming towards it directly and other technical reasons). There's also been a study to so called "self-righting" system with a rather bad result (will find it when on my personal laptop) so yeah: The only thing (=one) saving this guy from being smashed on the ground was his partner (or in this sdi).StroppyChops wrote:I can't imagine his 'auto-pop' would be guaranteed to work well (yeah, I know the 'chute is self-righting) if he's upside down like that, so top job by the dm.Schrodinger's Dog wrote:Trained this specific situation over and over again in the army myself and therefore can say: No fun at all. Somewhere else on here I read you've been a paramedic for quite some time (please excuse me if I'm wrong on this - thought it was you, tho). Have you ever seen a skydiver who's chute didn't open when he arrived on the ground? I luckily haven't, but from chuting experience I can imagine it's nothing you enjoy seeing.

No, fortunately I haven't. I saw a couple of falls accidents involving broken long bones, those will mess with your sleep for a while - I can't imagine the physical trauma a failed dive would cause, and I can't understand stories of people surviving them.Schrodinger's Dog wrote:Somewhere else on here I read you've been a paramedic for quite some time (please excuse me if I'm wrong on this - thought it was you, tho). Just to clarify, I was a senior ambulance officer rather than a paramedic, similar training but far less legal clearance for field procedures. AO's are responsible for stabilising, wrapping and packing (to hospital), by comparison paramedics are closer to field doctors.
