Govt. threatens to shut down Cambodia Daily
if alleged back taxes aren't paid. Link:

The Daily of course has an article concerning the alleged debt. Unfortunately I cannot open it. If those of you who have access would be so kind to cut and paste I along with others would be most grateful.

Re: Govt. threatens to shut down Cambodia Daily
Someone care to work out the interest rate on that. LolFrom 2007 to last year, the Daily owes $2.4 million in unpaid taxes, almost $1 million in “additional tax,” and another $3 million in interest, the letter says
It seems we can infer from that article that several opposition websites were hacked months ago, and remain hacked.
Obviously goverment backed as they haven't done anything about it apart from letting Freshnews be aware that they should watch it for latest "news".
The tax bill is more than they ever earned, they say.
What with the recent arrests of the editors in Burma, maybe they will shut it down. Then the PPP?
Don't worry though, we'll still have the Khmer Times.

In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST

Good news, the Daily is a partisan piece of shit. Its byline "All the news without fear or favor" is a total fucking lie.
Silence, exile, and cunning.

This document from the Cambodian Department of Taxation was leaked a couple days ago:
"Life is too important to take seriously."
"Life does not cease to be funny when people die any more than it ceases to be serious when people laugh."
