Goodbye to Phnom Penh’s ‘sleaziest bar’

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

what is a hipster anyway? just a doofus with a greasy beard and a lumberjack shirt from what i can tell,
maybe some buddy holly glasses and an aversion to manual labor.
Mr. Van Driessen: I think I'm going to introduce you boys to the rewards of manual labor.

Sorry, I don't remember the price of pineapples at the time.
seriously it was 700 riel that time? I guess if mr potato was in Cambodia that time, he wouldn't complain about the pineapple price as it might cost only 100 or 200 riel if the coke costs 700 riel.
You greedy little bugger! :stir: See how much you have put prices up!!!

In HCMC a small plastic bottle of coke straight from the fridges is still 700 Reil. Nothing has changed here but the greedy attitude.

Does anybody remember the Temple Bar?

I would believe you if i have never been to HCMC. You absolutely can't get a coke for 700 riel in Vietnam. In general, Vietnam is cheap compare to Cambodia, but not that cheap. Also, if you are a fan of Thailand products, Vietnam is not a choice for you to live.

A "small plastic bottle" of Coca-Cola...for 17 cents...in Vietnam.

No doubt next to the shop where they sell discount Chinese baby food and plastic bags of Chanel No.5 two-for-a-dollar.

How have you survived this long?

Well spotted, I made a mistake.
Go to most of the Family Mart type stores and they have them in the fridges for 6,500 VND, that's a bit more than 700R. More like 1,100R If you go to the mom and pop stores they will try to get 12-18000 VND for the same thing. I have even bought it from the honest Viet shops for 5,500.

It's strange, as the sort of greediness you get in and around HCMC is nowhere near as bad in the rest of Vietnam. Must be something to do with the fact it used to be Kampuchea Krom. :plus1:

Small glass bottle of Coca Cola in India used to be 5c a bottle in a Mumbai hotel I used to stay at in 2006. Room service included.
