Golden Sorya Mall - Is It Really This Bad Now?

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. Golden Sorya Mall - Is It Really This Bad Now?

Post by Francis »

Became Golden Soraya Mall really that bad ? Ok., I mean it has always been a shitty area that was best to be avoided, but for years I haven’t been to Phnom Penh and the last time I was there it was surely not THAT bad. I was laughing my ass off when reading the following story:
A guy sat at Golden Sorya mall on 51 and was approached by one of the local ice queens.
No surprise there. She became very affectionate and draped herself all over him. It was
only after she suddenly left he realized he had been pickpocketed and his Galaxy phone had gone. No surprise there. A quick search of the local area proved fruitless. On hearing the
complaints another girl approached and said she knew the girl and would get the phone back
for twenty dollars. He coughed up the loot and the girl was never seen again! No surprise there.
The next day he went back to the mall in a bad mood. Talking to some girls he told the story. One girl said she knew her and actually knew where she had sold the phone. After some back and forth discussion he gave her one hundred and fifty bucks to retrieve his phone. And the girl was never seen again. No surprise there then.
We are now all eagerly awaiting the arrival of the Tuk Tuk driver that, “I know her house.
The guys also became a bit more stupid.
Und der Haifisch der hat Tränen
Und die laufen vom Gesicht
Doch der Haifisch lebt im Wasser
So die Tränen sieht man nicht

In der Tiefe ist es einsam
Und so manche Träne fliesst
Und so kommt es dass das Wasser
In den Meeren salzig ist

All of street 51 and 72 is mostly full of newbie losers who think they are the shit. Nothing's ever going to change. Just came back from Thai Huot, and Mr. White Trash was holding the door forever for his fiancé or whatever, I am trying to get out, it's not a huge place, he is blocking me, what is he up to, starting a fight 11am at a busy supermarket entrance? Fuck those tactless shit heads coming around here I say. Khmer's seem better off in the bigger game once you get used to the pace here.

I don't get the bad rep street 51 gets. You go there for a reason.

At 2:00 am drunk off your tits it's ok. Decent bars, great scenery.

It is what it is. You don't like it, don't go there. Why trash the place?

If you, dear reader, have not been to cambodia,
you might not know they are fooling with ya'.

St 51 is like your favourite bar in whaterver town you
may be in reading this. But it is a few square blocks of peoples
favourite bars. If you are celebrating something good then you
will have a better time than any where else in the world.

Well after being here for more than your average 3 months to one year, you are easily tired by smartass newbie knowitalls coming around to tell you how things should be done, especially at or around a place like st.51, where $20 skanks are populating the area round the clock.

The only things worse than that are the long time expats who think being in Cambodia longer makes their opinions any more valuable than anyone else's, and feel the need to put down newer arrivals.

People watching is great fun, esp the old grumpy franzjaegery types hanging around there night after night with their similarly grumpy expats friends, muttering in German about how the newbies idiots steal the scene and distort the pricing system.
Plus very late at night that's about the only spot in PP where you still can get some decent food. Try that in TTP or even on the riverside.
