Gold prices

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

It might be advisable to go out of town a little too, like to a girl's home town. Maybe it's the country people talking, but many prefer not to buy in PP because stories (rumours?) of problems cashing back.

Don't know the business, but never heard of gold sold in grams here. Always dealt in hun, chi and dumlung. I'm told the price at the moment is $110/chi for platin (18k) and about $150/chi for meas.

Why is this? I was thinking of 10 k chain, is it not good quality? Price?
Mooser, DO NOT BUY GOLD IN CAMBODIA !!!! It's the worst quality, and they cheat...cheat, cheat. It has absolutely no value. BTW. a 10 karat thing is not even considered gold. If you want to have quality gold you have to go to Thailand (Bangkok, China Town).

No, even there it's not 24 karat even though they are going to tell you that. It's between 21 and 22 karat simply for the reason that the standard gold test is only good for up to 22 Karat. If you want to verify that the piece has more than 22 karat you need a chemical analysis. Anyway, Thai gold is good and beautiful and has value. Cambodian "gold" is tin, and nothing else. Hands off.

So die Tränen sieht man nicht

In der Tiefe ist es einsam
Und so manche Träne fliesst

sorry Francis, that is just not true. if it were, they would soon be out of business as they all buy back the articles they sell at a small discount, around 3%.
bold statements are best backed by a citation.

you are correct in your assertion that baht gold is .965 fine.

it is difficult to cheat on the karat when a little man is right outside the door acid testing as is the case all over asia.

I agreed! If you're going to buy gold then but it from the west. You'll get quality gold and it's worth the money.
