Re: Going to work when your sick
Before I left home, 10 years with the same employer, never late for work, 4 days off sick in that time.
Then the alcoholic clown that worked next to me and was off after every payday and was always in late left, and he got the same reference letter.

The problem with the labour law is that labour inspectors are just as corrupt as everybody else. Another problem is that most foreigners will sign contracts written in English, a language that Khmer courts politely ignore exists, making it practically impossible to be right as a foreigner.

Yup, was talking to a new school owner the other day, and he told me they pay for visas, but teachers have to pay for work permits. I didn't bother to remind him that the law is very clear, to most Khmers the word law is meaningless, money is god.

To be fair work permits are a lot cheaper.

Yeah, most bars/restaurants are notoriously unfair when it comes to sick days. I think that the girls in hostess bars get similar penalties (which are illegal).

Khmer or expat owner? I think too many people assume that Khmers are the people always ignoring the Labour Law, lot of expats doing it too.

Oh I know the salaries in several expat owned bars and restaurants and they're abysmally low.

It would be nice, regardless of the country, if people fully employed could earn a living wage. Sadly, most people don't--despite working a full-time schedule.
