And when the electricity went off at 10:00 (Daun Penh) it was a reminder of how much fun that can be without fans.

Always keep a litre of water in the freezer.

I wonder how long you have been here. At least when I settled down here, power cuts were happening 2 to 3 times a week. A dual power fan (alternatively an ordinary one and a UPS), as well as battery backup LED light bulbs were one of my first investments
Driving on Cambodian roads is just like playing a classic arcade top scroller. The only difference is a force feedback controller, the limitation to only one life and the inability to restart, once Game Over

Well there used to be multiple power cuts a day but I'm not sure that's relevant.
Silence, exile, and cunning.

The heat can get too much sometimes but it’s the water that gets me the most. I like an afternoon shower but sometimes the heat of the ‘cold’ water is unbearable. I have to let the shower run for about 5 minutes before I can even put my hand in it.
The difference between animals and humans is that animals would never allow the dumb ones to lead the pack.

Those days were bloody miserable. Memories of power cuts in the evening lasting until the morning. Getting up for several showers a night.John Bingham wrote: ↑Tue Apr 02, 2024 3:39 pmWell there used to be multiple power cuts a day but I'm not sure that's relevant.
Although the older buildings were better designed for air flow. And back then fewer high rise concrete buildings soaking in heat all day and radiating it all evening.
New buildings don't have the air vents at the top of walls... Especially hot with no air flow in mid-row borey housing,

Agreed, always gets me when people complain in hotel reviews here that the shower wasn't hot

I wouldn't claim to have been here for very long.
Your rechargeable fan and light suggestions are good advice.

Do most apartments for rent have generator back up to keep the aircon running?

I haven't heard of any. Dual power fan (alternatively an ordinary one and a UPS), as well as battery backup LED light bulbs.newkidontheblock wrote: ↑Wed Apr 03, 2024 5:41 am Do most apartments for rent have generator back up to keep the aircon running?

Some do, certainly not all. But I get the impression that many generators have been sold off, due to decreasing numbers of power cuts and probably due to decreased income around covid times.newkidontheblock wrote: ↑Wed Apr 03, 2024 5:41 am Do most apartments for rent have generator back up to keep the aircon running?
