Gibbons roaming around Phnom Penh

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Owned by an Okna or not
Fab that gibbons (gibbons!!) are running loose around parts of Phnom Penh.

Maybe we should go back to the ancient days - when all the wild animals of all kingdoms were owned by the King.
Nobody in Cambodia would dare touch a tiger, or a pangolin, strolling down Monivong if they had an HE branded on their flank.

The male was screaming on the balcony the floor below me. I shouted at him and he scrambled right up. Seemed friendly and curious, but I ran into my house when he got too close. Now that I know they're domestic, I might keep some bananas on hand and get a bit closer.

Does anyone know any more about the guy who owns these monkeys?

that's great. I'm glad someone else has seen them too. so they baby that you saw with its mother was brown and not the color of the one in my picture?
Does your apartment happen to be close to the Soviet Khmer friendship hospital?

Richard- I also had a baby Maqacue, female. My friend wasn't home enough to take care of it so he gave her to me. She hated any females. My wife, friends GF's, my wife's mother, any females. She loved boys or men though but would bite women or girls. I have heard that it is common with that breed, idk. I was not home enough with a full-time job to take care of her since my wife couldn't. We gave her to a monk that lived at a Pagoda in Kampong Chnnang with other monkeys that adopted her. 6 months later I saw a shared video on FB of a random couple with a baby macaque that I thought was her. She was on a guy's shoulder wearing the same color orange collar and leash and his GF gave them space. I turned the volume to hear the name Mey-Mey which was the name my wife gave her.

Yes to both. Brown baby and regular colored mom. 3 blocks from Soviet Khmer hospital.

I'm heading there after I click submit to this post. do you remember the time or thereabouts you saw them? I wonder if there is a daily pattern they follow.

I've seen the mom and kid three times in the past two weeks. I saw the male around a month ago. Once at my apartment, once (screaming) on a building overlooking Mao Tse Tung. Then back at my apartment screaming his head off a few days ago. Based on my own observations, no pattern. I'll keep my eyes out for them.

Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.

I have learned more about them. Excellency Hun To (pronounced Toa apparently, and close relationship to HE) owns them and he lives by Sovana Market. When I briefly searched for his name I didn't find anything.
