Future of Cambodian factories. [ and the workers ]

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Future of Cambodian factories. [ and the workers ]

Post by Duncan »

I took a walk along the Stung Meanchy road today, and was amazed at the difference since I was last there a few years ago, as it is all concrete now. The area is known for it's many factories and it appears they are all short of workers. I'm wondering where all these workers are to come from in the future as most of the kids going to school and uni now will not want factory jobs when they graduate.
With the new minimum salary coming in at the start of the new year, and the shortage of workers, factories are going to find it tough going unless their production output increases a lot. Another downside for them here is everything is dollar related. A strong dollar is ok for the usa with their strong economy, but where does that leave Cambodia, when our major currency should be related to our neighbours [ Thai, Viet, Malay etc ] and our exports which are,,,,,, nothing.

Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.

More and more factories are now operating out in the boonies. This morning, as Mister Butch and I enjoyed our perambulation we were passed by five lorries, three mini-buses and numerous motos all carrying workers to those around Takeo Town. Up until about two years ago all these workers would have gone to Phnom Penh. :hattip:

I'm looking for a part time job which work from Wed-Fri or till Sat( morning or afternoon). I don't mind if it's a waitress or cleaner because I don't know what can I do more than this job. Plz PM me if you know one.

Try posting under Help Wanted. No one can see you in this thread. Could you do private secretarial work ? I've nothing against cleaning, but I hope you find something more interesting and adapted to your skills.
Gook luck.
