Funniest news I've seen for ages
Re: Funniest news I've seen for ages
Name me two you know of in town where I don't have to sit in an isolation room and not vegan ( do people have to go vegan to eat smoke free? ) I only know one and thats Rikitikitavi which is a bit more expensive than most in town. Yes sitting outside you can put up with, but smoking inside people are just pathetic to say the least.Anchor Moy wrote: ↑Fri Apr 09, 2021 9:07 pmLet's not be ridiculous. It's quite simple to find smoke-free zones. Inside any restaurant with A/C is smoke-free. If you want smoke-free in Cambodia then go A/C. If you sit outside then there will probably be smokers. I smoke, but I'd never smoke in an A/C place anywhere.
There's also a lot of vegan-yoga restaurants/resorts/retreats in Kampot which are probably all non-smoking.

Would be great if they went through with this. I specifically remember sitting at a place in Kampot and the odor of smoke wafting over to my table disturbed my meal with family.
Make them go out across the street to a designated area. If a chain smoker, you should just stay home.

Pick one. This seems like it could be a great thing.

Smokers always predict direst consequences from potential bans. I remember when they banned smoking in pubs in UK and Ireland, all smokers said it would be the death of the pub. Wasn't. Give it up, you know it makes sense.

Kep and Kampot will be tourism free by 2022. Whether someone is smoking in public is going to be the least of their worries.

UPDATE: Coming soon
Kampot planned as ‘smoke-free’ destination
Yuth Vireak | Publication date 29 December 2022 | 21:33 ICT
The Ministry of Tourism plans to turn Kampot town into the Kingdom’s first smoke-free tourism destination. This is part of plans to promote Kampot province as a beautiful, green safe tourist destination which will host major national and international events in the future.
Hor Sarun, ministry secretary of state, chaired a December 28 meeting on the plan to implement the guidelines on the designation of Kampot as a smoke-free tourist town.
He encouraged the participation of all relevant parties, and said the new policy would protect the health and welfare of the people of the town, as well as tourists.
“Tobacco smoke poses a risk to people’s health and to the environment. In order to mitigate its impact on economic and social health, the owners of tourism businesses across the Kingdom should follow the latest guidelines which pushed for increased tobacco control measures and offered smoke-free environmental guidance,” he said.
“This is especially true for Kampot, already one of the cleanest, greenest destinations in Cambodia,” he added.
Sarun stated that making Kampot town a free-smoke tourist destination would require the participation of all business owners, authorities and members of the public.
He called on all relevant parties and police to paste and erect “no-smoking or e-cigarette” signs at markets and other public places.

Still funniest news story, it won't happen, I can't see how the restaurant owners will be able to get customers to stubb out without the help of the police, I remember all restaurants and pubs crying about this law when it came out in Australia , they all survived and staff much happier.

Re: Funniest news I've seen for ages
Isn't Kampot town known as the weed culture haven? Last time i was there, saw a lot of people of all age openly smoking weed everywhere; on patios of restaurants, inside bars and public places. That's why Kampot town has the reputation as a sleepy lay back pot friendly destination.
Also a majority of the Chinese from China are heavy smokers. I don't think they would be to thrilled with a smoke free zone.
If this new law is enforced, I think it will have a negative affect on tourism for Kampot. Instead of a positive one.
